The bellhousings are different. Aside from that and a different OD gear ratio, they're the same.

I would just find a KA transmission, man. They can be had for $100 and they're all over the place. Be a little patient. Swapping bellhousings would be a bitch.
Try searching searchtempest.com
Search for "(240sx|240 sx|s13|s14)" without the quotes. Check relevant listings. Sometimes people have a listing like "Rims for sale" and when you check it they say "I also have other 240 parts like ka transmission, etc".
Also try searching for "(ka24|ka24de)" without quotes.

Get a short throw if you think it'll suit you. Personally, I'm going to stay with a stock throw when I put my manual trans in. I'll be learning, and I'd rather the different gear selections be further apart so I'm less likely to make mistakes (i.e. putting it in 1st instead of 3rd).
Aside from that (assuming you're going to keep the SOHC KA when you swap the trans), just get a stage 1 or oem clutch and flywheel. There's no need to get a stage three if you've got 140hp. It'd actually be counterproductive. If you pick up a manual trans that comes with a clutch and flywheel, get them resurfaced if possible and you'll be good to go!

yeah im going to stay with sohc for now, when i get the 5 speed swap in the car and then get a dohc ka or even an sr for a heavy build/rebuild on the engine and tranny then make it count when i do that swap.

a must...check pilot bushing, make sure throw out (release) bearing spins freely, stock or short shifter -- check the bushing on that too because if its old and used up it may feel like a loose ^a6ina and has a lot of slop and possible rattling during cruise. then there's proper lubrication. theres a drain plug underneath transmission and a fill plug on the side. drain tranny like you're changing oil, cap it, fill it til it comes out of the fill hole (about 2.4L according to FSM) -- as well as lithium grease on critical points like the pinch zones of the clutch fork and on the pivot http://www.vosko.net/media/fsm/CL.pdf Page 8. KA FSM i know but still same concept.....aside from the "Standard" oem spec 5spd swap stuff i think the things i listed are MUSTS that are sometimes overlooked or just not known

i was thinking about a complete rebuild on the transmission before install. new seals, the works... i mean its kinda pointless to install something that might possibly break down or something while im out an about.
