I've decided recently to move back to chicago for awhile and a friend there has a car I'd like to buy. I'm testing the waters for now to see how much I can get out of it before I commit any money to him.
2006 Forester X automatic, bought new by my grandmother(yes, really) in 2005. She sold it to me at 73,000 miles in november of 2010 and I've been driving it since then, about half of them since are highway miles with the other half being a mix of city driving and driving up a canyon road to go skiing.
I want 9 grand stock, 10.5k without the wheels, and 12k with everything.
-BC BR coilovers, 6k/8k with 30-way adjustment. for a thousand dollars these aren't bad, plus they go extra low without losing shock travel.
-whiteline 27mm RSB, whiteline mounts and kartboy endlinks. this makes a huge difference in handling, a 25 in the front to match would be a whole lot of fun.
-6, count em six 18x9.5 +22 rotiform NUEs, four are in perfect condition aside from a super minor curb spot that's on the lip, not even on the face. the other two have a bunch of scratches in the clear because the idiot tech at discount tire set them face down on the shop floor. one of the damaged wheels has a used 215/35 achilles on it to be used as a spare.
-4 215/35 kuhmo ecsta ASTs mounted on the four good wheels. minor sidewall rubbage on two of em.
-350mm Nardi deep corn wheel, black with red stitching.
-NRG slim hub and 2.5 quick release
-Teamtech black 4-point harness, FIA rated and good until 2015 if it matters to you but this isn't exactly a track car.
-touge factory bucket seat with buddy club rails. basically a knockoff bride vios with a fairly nice cover and touge factory logos.
-5% tints in the rear 5 windows and 20% in the front two.
problems with the car:
-currently there's a recall out for the front control arms. mine are fine but I'm going to have them replaced anyway.
-the front plastic skidplate thing is in pretty bad shape, I broke it a little bit driving through some deep snow last winter and then when I slammed the car it dragged on the ground alot. not a real problem, and if you're going to buy the car I can make a stop sign skid plate ala jgart or replace it with an oem piece.
-the paint has some issues. two chipped spots and a spot where I kind of nudges a concrete pole. the first picture below shows this, it's been covered with touch up paint but it's still obvious. I could have this fixed. regardless I'm giong to have the paint professionally corrected soon.
-there is an exhaust leak that makes the car sound like it has a whistle tip. while it is pretty hilarious I'm going to fix it.
-the sunroof is cracked. also fixing this.
it's also due for a dealer maitenance checkup deal do I'm going to have that done when I take it in for the LCA recall. the oil has been changed every 3000-3500 miles with mobil 1 synthetic since I have had it. I didn't have the foresight to think I'd be selling it so I don't have receipts to prove it but I can guarantee I haven't missed an oil change. the car runs like a top aside from the exhaust leak, I have driven it to chicago, boise, vegas, southern utah, LA, and yosemite without a single problem. the front passenger CV was replaced by the dealer back in july, I tore the boot and the outer joint grenaded so I had a whole new axle assembly put in.
with my current hwy/mountain driving I average 21-22 miles per gallon, that is with a rack and big fat powder skis. driving to and from california with three guys in the car and loaded to the roof with stuff on the 215/35s I was getting 26-28 driving 90 miles an hour most of the time. there's about an 8% difference in the tire size from stock to these.
it rides really, really nicely for how low it sits. I'm going to be buying rear camber plates pretty quick here and dialing in the rear fitment. to go any lower in the front you would need shorter springs and the BC "extreme drop" struts. there is about half a centimeter between the bottom of the front strut and the cv boot and the coils are maxed out. well I mean were, the car is in winter mode right now so the ride height is a little lower than it is in the first couple pictures and it's on stockers.
I would be happy to put it back to stock for someone and in stock form I'd like 9,000 for it. with the seat/wheel/RSB setup/coils and wheels, I would like 12,000. (1900 in wheels, ~500 in tires, coils 1,000 sway bar and trimmings 550 seat/rails/harness 720 wheel/hub/QR 500 total a little over 5 grand in parts)
if you think this is a reasonable price let me know, if I should be asking more or less I'd like to hear that as well. I can't sell the car right this second but if I have a for sure buyer I can sell it and work around not having a car for a minute though.
that's all I can think of at the moment, if I remember anything else I'll add and I'll have more detailed pictures of the car as it sits now in a little bit, for now here are the best ones I can find.
