If youre only looking to spend a couple hundred just go like very cheapass and rattlecan it and throw some Rotas on and stickerbomb your primer lip.

If i may add, i took my mr2 around 8 years ago to macco I paid 500 or so it was a bronze metallic color I sold the car about a year go and the paint still looked good after polishing it here and there, My mr2 sat outside, its really hot and sunny here, the guy i sold the Mr2 was surprised as well. they did mess up thou. over sprayed the stock muffler abit. but I have to say it wasn't bad maybe I just got a good painter.
Or just go and ask around everyone got a Homeboy that paints just buy good products XD

macco or 1 day can do a painjob for like 300-500. if you can't pay that, sell the car without the paint job. seriously you are a real cheap ass. Beer budget champagne taste.

The "not looking to pay hundreds of dollars" made me laugh.

Joking aside, if you really want a cheap paint job, go to various maaco's in your area, and look at the cars they have parked outside..those are the cars that they just finished painting.

If you are satisfied with how those cars look, then take your car to that maaco. However, if you have an intercooler, nice exhaust, or nice wheels, then you should cover them, because they'll get over spray on that shit. I'd honestly put on stock wheels before you take it.

Honestly if you do all the body work and prep yourself, and take it to a maaco that you've checked out and seen the work that they've done.

I took my car to one and all the prep work was done and it didn't come out bad at all. But Like Stryfe said, if you have an intercooler, exhaust, or anything you don't want over spray on, I suggest you take it off.

YES your cars will look better then Mine! its sitting on a stock suspension and old school 4 lug 300zx Rims... so at this point anything looks better than my car... Just lookin to paint so it can be more presentable when sold..The car Runs SOlid ... Just the paint that makes it look Junky....

i painted mine for around $300-400, paint was $256 and tape, cleaning shit, etc made up the rest. Granted i already had a paint gun, compressor and a booth, but if you have a garage, small compressor and a gun its pretty easy. The final product all depends on the prep, You just gotta research a little beforehand.

Even a cheap paint job will run in the hundreds. Seems like you want cheaper. Find a friend with a compressor, by a cheap paint gun, cheap rustoleum paint and do it your self.

Well, you "Don't want to spend hundreds of dollars"... You also "Just want the car to be all one color nomsayin"... You could hit up your nearest wal-mart, home depot, lowes, or ol "Roberto the tagger" for some Krylon :snoop:... Get the primer, (a few cans, black or white or whatever tickles your taint) hit it up in your garage. Cost you easily less than 150, just depends on your attention to detail, if it comes out looking like a bag of smashed assholes you have no one to blame but yourself. :ddog:

As for prices,I generally start around 12-1500 depending on cars initial condition,then body work is xtra.Full color changes(all jambs) +250. This is for basic colors & oem's/excluding metalics.

Now if you want GANGSTA GANGSTA,flakes,pearls, metallics tinted primers/sealers,high end clears,HOK products. $$$$$$$$$$.

O,I do pretty much everything base coat/clear coat.Cut & buff pretty much everything

I agree with likethunda, there is no need to post his number on here. Likethunda is a good gateway for him to get legit customers instead of guys who just want to get quotes when they have no money.

True, Every car is different. some might have lots of Dings and Dents that require extra work, and others might have NO Dents requiring no work.

My car had a very clean Body. required little to no body work.

Here's some pics. Came out pretty decent. A little wavy but my fenders are pulled pretty bad and it would need a lot of finèsse to get a smooth surface. I'm not worried about it for the price.

Overall my experience was pretty good. I was skeptical for a bit during the process. I understand body/paint takes some time and work so when he needed a couple extra days I was fine with it. Mike told me to come in and when I did it wasn't even done. It seemed like he tries to rush a job out. Great in most cases, but not if you tell people to come and it's not done. The next day he finished everything. I was surprised how it came out after seeing it the night before.

Mike still has to touch some things up but they're all small stuff. He'll take care of them soon. I didnt know what to expect for the cost but this paint job works and i like it. Coming from a primered car for 3+ years, I needed something to protect the car from rust and having a decent paint job is always a plus.

There's some orange peel but not where its noticeable. Like the lower parts but my aero is gonna cover most.

I paid 650 I think because he had to da the rattle can primer and re-primer the whole car. He did the rear interior for me as well.

I had primer canned it like 2 years ago when I originally was gonna paint it. I did it to protect some spots. Mike sanded it off to lay down a proper primer.

gotcha. Mad props for delivering pictures. It seems like certain member on this thread got all defensive when asked for pictures of progress. And honestly Mike shoulda called his customers back for touch ups by using any phone if his own cell phone went down. Better communication is possible if an extra effort is put out. Here goes the review:
Overall my experience has been littered with good and bad experiences. First we'll start off with the good stuff. The paint job was priced very well for a stage 2. This means he sprayed both the base and a clear on top of it. While sanding the car, he noticed the previous owner had sanded to the metal on certain areas and offered to spray a sealer for an extra fee which I agreed to (without this warning, my paint could have possibly "boiled" on top of the metal and peeled). He also painted the door jams too without an extra fee (which I appreciate). Looking at the pictures I have put up, you can see that the car came out nice in comparison to what it looked like before, which looked like trash on wheels.

Bad stuff: The car is still not done. After giving me a one week time frame, when I got the car back it was not finished at all. There was runs of clear on the front bumper, places where paint was peeled from tape, little holes in the door that he did not fill back up with bondo (I told him ahead of time of this issue; in sanding it, he actually brought out more), and the plastic trip holding up the side mirrors were not painted as asked. All these things were supposed to have been rectified this past Sunday when I drove back; However, situations, on his end, did not allow him to finish. I still have the holes in the door, places where the tape peeled some paint off the side view mirrors, and the plastic trim holding the side view mirrors are still not painted. The only real thing done was the car was polished, buffed, and waxed.

Now onto stuff that has nothing to the with the paint itself: Time. Every time he has told me a time to pick up the car, it was not done. To me it's not a big deal but to others it might be. For example, this Sunday I dropped my car off again and told him I would be back at 5pm to pick it up. He assured me it would be done. He then texted me around 4-5pm letting me know that he was not done and I should come around 7-7:30pm to get the car. I went at that time and the car was not finished until 8:40pm when I left.

In addition, when I went to first pick up the car, pieces of the car had been broken. One of the window "guides" (things that push up against the glass) had been broken so my driver side window does not completely seal. I can hear wind with the glass rolled up all the way. My reverse light bulb was broken and he put another one in. However, that one didn't work either so I ended up just buying new bulbs. My side marker connector from the harness to the socket went missing. I had to splice a spare one I had. My door panels were also pretty abused with the plastic part on the inside being broken so my window switch does not sit flush inside the door panel but rather bows outward.

Most of the bad stuff are little things that added up. I still don't know how I feel and I am one that can not give a number/rating to a place i.e. 9/10, Overall Grade of C etc....

Just read up on this and make up your own mind.

I don't think this is true. I have the maaco special paint for $299 (paid $265) and I have pearl in my paint.

Their choices of color will not have pearl but if you have a paint code, they will use cheaper product but enter the paint code.

You tell the paint shop I have the OEM paint code XXX, will you be able to do this? (of course they are going to say yes because you have the SPECIFIC color code).

If you go to them and say, I want this color X in this mag, photo, video, they will tell you we can match the paint but cannot guarantee it will be the same.

I got my car painted first and then my ganadors/kouki wing sprayed separately, possible 3-4 months, and they look the same too me.

Autozone has a good amount ranging from 500-2500 (sheets are different sizes). If you're looking for a page type sandpaper, I harbor freight has them in sheets for $3-$4 for a 3-5 pack.

Edit: unless you're referring to under 400grit, Home Depot has a range from 28-200 grit. Other than that, you will need to go to scherwins or any paint shop stores.

you're absolutely right, people shouldnt "expect" a Show car/baller/etc... paint job.

but they do come out really nice. this is mainly for people on a Budget. If you are avoiding a paint job because its going to break the bank then i suggest painting it with Mike. If you have Money to Blow then feel free to spend it on an expensive multi stage paint job.

I think I said this before but I'll say it again. Go to the shop where you want to take your car to get painted and see how they prep and review cars that have been painted. Then decide if you want to go there and have it sprayed.

The reason why I went to Escondido to get my car painted is because I have two friends that painted their cars there and came out really well.

However, I plan on getting my car re-painted since the presidential package is better than the ambassador (looks way more glossy) in the near future. If you would like to get it at a cheaper price, sand the car yourself and state that when they give you a quote.

The above advice are for people who just want their car painted and not looking for a show car quality paint. If you do, then you're looking in the wrong area.

DK @ G.L. in socal used to do 500.00 paint jobs and hes really good IMO. I dont know if he is still doing it but i can find out. Hes done tons of cars along with his own and has a good reputation for it. Hes located in the 626 city of el monte.

Yeah you can save so much money by doing the prep yourself and quality of your paint job comes in the prep. I paid 400 bucks for this paint job from my buddy. You get what you pay for. The paint itself was about 230 plus materials and his labor. 2 tone charcoal gray with black top. Plus the engine bay.

Just a heads up the backside of that panel is pretty accesable if you take off the interior panel immediatly behind it. It may be worth trying to pop out yourself if money is an issue.

that looks like it could be fixed by a pdr (paintless dent repair) guy pretty easily. No idea how much it will cost, but if i would have to guess no more than $200 (be sure to have him fix all other small dents around your car while he's at it).

I've used Rustoleum in the past on other people's cars. It's all in prep and how you take care of it. That will dictate it's longevity.

As for depth, you won't find much of it using Rustoleum paints. Use mineral spirits (100%) as your thinner if you decide to spray it or roll it. Would not recommend rattle canning it for large applications.

For what they cost, it's not a bad deal.
