I have never heard anything like this before with any 240sx. 1995 S14 with 300,000 miles. It is probably mileage related. I have not looked under the car yet- I expect someone to already have knowledge from experience on the forum, so here is the symptom:
When the car is turned left or right, whether moving or still, there is a rubberized squeaking sound, as if the steering shaft were encased in rough dry rubber. Imagine a vice grip coated in thick rubber grasping the steering shaft, and try to turn the steering wheel. I do not quite know how else to describe the sound.
the oddest thing is that it will sometimes NOT make the noise, usually only after driving for a while it begins.
My diagnosis will begin with inspection of the front end components, I would like some ideas of what to look for from the experienced members of the forum before I start, please?
