Well with no emissions...id assume it's legal, but just to be safe, i'd put a dummy cat around the pipe. One idea would be to just hollow the cat out and run the pipe through the center of it..

i dont agree with you putting a straight pipe! you are forgetting the most important thing, youre creating pollution!! save the earth. plant a tree. dont litter.

I don't know about the KA, but it can't be much different than other 4 cyl. cars I've heard with straightpipes...an older BMW 3 Series and a Miata--both are race cars....and they're loud as #### and would be just plain damb annoying to live with everyday. Just something to think about if you haven't already.

Exactly! Don't be apocalyptic, be prophetic...:)

No it wont be legal. They don't do the emissions test but they still look to see if everything is there. The best thing to do is have a pipe with flanges welded on and just take the converter off. Then when you need to get it inspected just put it on.

Big problem with straight pipes though. If they're too short, cold air can suck in and crack a valve. Plus, way way way to fucking loud. I mean, you will bust your eardrums. And it ain't gonna do that much. I would suggest a split pipe. Y piece with a valve for normal exhausting, and out the side for full on exhaust. They sell 'em in magazines for 20 bucks.

Oh yeah, the other big problem: Straight pipes eliminate backpressure. Be aware with those will come backfires, and possible ECU malfunctions. It'll try to correct for what it thinks is a massive wrong doing. On 69 Chevelles, it's not a problem. An Eclipse I don't think would like it.

Removing or tampering with a cat is illegal in all 50 states, regardless of emissions laws and testing.
Plus, like Chickenmanq said, the car isn't really designed to have no backpressure at all. And it will sound like poop.

I rather liek the sound of poop plopping down on a cold winters morning <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>. What chickenman said made sense about that y adapter. Will that make a difference or is it still pointless to get a stright dp? That's an interesting prospect. Never heard of them...please tell me more about them...

Florida has no visual inspection either. Mineme686 get the staight pipe if you want, if his eclipse is turbo then maybe it won't be that loud (I would put a muffler on the end) while it's illegal to tamper with the cat, it's not like you will be caught.

Have you ever watched Junkyard Wars? The once had a competition there to build pulling tractors, but basically with whatever they had. One team used a Rover engine, and without an exhaust. It was loud as all ####, this was on TV. I mean seriously, it WILL hurt your ears. My friends riding lawnmower ehxaust fell off at the manifold, and he had to wear earplugs to mow his field. That little 10 hp was insanely loud. It hurt my ears even at a 1/4 mile away.
The idea is that no restriction of exhaust gives more hp. While that is true, it is true to a point. Using a straight dump pipe on certain engines, say a 400 hp 350 V8 would be fine. They are designed to operate like that. With a newer import however, it's going to sound like shit, and most likely won't do jack squat for hp. It is probably less than with a header and appropriate exhaust system. Try the dump pipe if you want though. I'd get the little Y deal. I have yet to put it on mine. Don't know if I ever will.

if you have a straight pipe and a cope pulls you over and looks your are S.O.L that is one that they will fine your for, not even a warning. I know a guy who got fined, it was like 100 bucks or something like that.. and that is in canada where we are more leanient.
