I'm sure most of you have already heard the rumors of of Diago running a Z40 Soarer for Formula D 2012. Some people said V8 which was always wrong from the beginning, Diago only builds 2j's, so without further a due.

Here it is in all of its 1200hp glory.

It was Doriten 2 months ago. The car has changed alot since though. There was some engine parts changed (Turbo) and some other details. yeah, the guy (Mr.Barnett) that was working the line said that the team orange dude didn't believe that he lost, so he wouldn't go back to the pits. Instead, he copped an attitude and started pushing Mr.Barnett with his car to push him out of the way so that he could line up to run again, but they wouldnt let him.

One of the mechanics from team orange came over and started trying to push Barnett out of the way, Barnett pushed back then people started yelling. Shit got out of hand and now there's no D1GP usa any more..

I think with the push of drift missiles and things like BloodMasters, it will bring FD to a place where a slight tap is ok.
Then drivers wont be so scared to get close.

The way it is right now, if you start getting to close, the lead car can sandbag and get you to tap them, then take the points. So who would want to risk on of 2 dozen runs most drivers get in a full season.

Not in the pure sense but what is allowed to the chassis is kind of bs. Check Gushi's FRS compared to HKS and Droo-P GT86. FD cars hack off everything outside if the strut towers and attach body Panels to custom tubing. They remove so much sheet metal that they can compensate weight anywhere.

I cannot watch the US versions of drifting, bunch of high speed half assed angles with no actual STYLE in it.

Americans call it dirty to fake shift and trick throttle play to screw your opponent up, but that is the sport, high speed entry race lines are boring.

Speed in FD doesn't excite me nearly as much as style in D1 does. In FD it seems that most of the drivers are concentrated mainly on speed and everything else comes second which I find pretty boring. There are a few drivers that are fun to watch but all of them are under dogs.

i did feel a little bit of bias in the judging. one judge was like "wait, whats his name again?" he kind of seemed as though he was undermining the new guy.

i really liked the match up. daigo's follow run was very strong. his simultaneous initiations and transitions were very apparent of D1. that doesnt seem to matter much in FD.

yoshihara's follow run was very strong too. daigo had GANGSTER angle under the dunlop bridge, but check out the small correction at 2:50, thats probably what they noticed most of all since the judges sit right there

You are right Odi Bakchis had a way better lead run than Gushi.

The problem is FD judges don't know what constitutes a winning tandem run. In D1 it's simple. Lead car goes fast and side ways while protecting their line as the chase car puts pressure. In FD it's like the lead car must make a wide path hitting outside clips while the chase car must mirror their pointless line. This is why 95% of the battles are two car lengths apart.

This video clearly shows in run two Dai making two mistakes following daigo. Way shallow angle through both parts of turn 10 not nearly matching Daigo's insane angle, and he completely failed to match Daigo's turn 11 transition. He horribly failed to match Daigo's transition speed going into turn 11. Daigo never straightened not even once like the judges claimed. The only mistake Daigo made which was arguable was his slight waddle right before the second clipping point. This is not seen in other video's shot at better angle's which is why i say the mistake was arguable. It definitely should have gone OMT. Basically it just shows the extreme bias on the judges. They couldn't stand to have a foreigner take a top podium position on his very first event. Its okay thought because Daigo will completely and utterly destroy Road Atlanta, the course is very similar to minami, his home track. The Japanese have better long sliding skill than Americans and ATL suits higher horsepower cars.

Actually i think daigo's corrections aren't typical of d1 but more so of driving an untested car and getting use to american tracks. Also remember after the tandem with tyler the car had a damaged rear spindle caused by the crash There wasn't enough time to replace the spindle so toe had to be eyeballed, which going against matt you wouldn;t have thought something was wrong with his car. I love these j dudes so much work ethics and determination. His crew consist of 2 guys, small budget, taking on the world ! I bet daigos entire car cost less than some of these V8 motors. Another cool fact about daigos car is that he bought it as a salvaged vehicle from the tsunami. Before Seibon hooked his car up with all the bits and pieces, the stock sheet metal was pretty tattered

Dai has roughly 3 people that work on his car, kojima, his crew chief and 1 or 2 other dudes. Matt has just the same.


George Marstonavic's car was built from the ground up by himself and 1 other person, he finished it the morning of the event and didnt drive it once before that day. I just watched the videos... All this mistake stuff is crazy.. If you look Daigo has WAY more angle passing through that 2nd turn than Powers or Dai. The "mistalke" isn't a mistake at all, its his style and what you have to do when you have that much angle. If you do a backwards entry, you "correct" out of it at the right moment. You don't get points docked for that, you get points added for pulling it off, since that is the hardest part of a backwards entry.
Dai seriously gets like fucking dunked on those first two turns, then he closes in on the final turn to make it look like he closed the gap.... of course he closed the gap. Drift shallow and follow the same line you too can recreate this amaing tandem magic lol.

Speed in FD doesn't excite me nearly as much as style in D1 does. In FD it seems that most of the drivers are concentrated mainly on speed and everything else comes second which I find pretty boring. There are a few drivers that are fun to watch but all of them are under dogs.

couple new rules this year.
1.) you can sacrifice a little line and angle to close that gap between you and the driver you're following
2.) passing is allowed in particular areas, otherwise they dnt want your front wheels to pass the leaders front wheels

He played JR like a fiddle.
He has the HP and grip to shallow out a little and stay on line, instead he went steep angle with the front wheels pointing out the the side of the track and just let his car get wider and wider.

Next thing he knows hes way to inside and almost passing Saito.
Then Saito just closed the gap on him.

You're forgetting that Aasbo is a Need For Speed driver. . . all the major teams get preference in a close battle. Too much politics in Formula D, Falken and NFS get preference over the other teams who sponsors don't pour tons into advertising for the events.

I miss the days when Formula D had some leniency to it, and just because the AE86 didn't make as much smoke or angle as the GTO, didn't mean it was automatically out.

I'm not a big fan of the "Haha I tricked you" style that Saito uses, I think it's kind of cheap. I think you should be going as hard as you can every time, regardless.

I think both the passing and the dirt drop rules are both really stupid.

I hear the judges saying "off line" a lot on the livestream, and I think that they always blow that way out of proportion. I love it when the drivers hit the clips, but there are certain places of the track where it's sweet to see them come out wide.

Daigo played JR like a fiddle.
Although, JR did an amazing job rollin with it till the end.
Diago gave full throttle, then drug ebrake, then throttle, then ebrake.
trying to trick JR and and cause him to loose drift or back off and get left behind.
Watch the wheels lock over and over, a less HP car would have been left in the dust on that trick.
So he just took it all the way wide at the end, and that worked for him.

but just so you know....when he was leaving long beach, he never caught traction....it was always spinning from off the line almost until he initiated. Thats why he runs a huge wing...it helps a ton believe it or not. Also, the Achilies tires he's running, look like R comps. They aren't the normal performance stuff you usually see from this tire company. They are pretty gummy.

Nothing special about alignment etc that i know of and nothing special about suspension other than it being balling ass Ikeya formula parts. only reason why i know this is because after long beach we had a bent knuckle from the contact made with the mobile 1 camaro. Pulled one off of a usdm sc430 and boom wallah back on the road.

Also a lot of people speculate whether there is something special about Daigo's set up giving him an advantage, but often over look the driving style of the japanese.

I've picked up a lot just from watching robbie and pitting for him last year. Lets go back to vegas. our yellow 240sx was putting out MAX 400 hp yet we placed top 3 in entry speed in Vegas (slipping supercharger belt + heat soaking). Hows this possible against cars putting out twice the amount of power?

Daigo's driving style is the same way cept both guys have more power this year. People are amazed by his speed, some think its a trick... but really its not. Its just wheel speed put your foot into the gas and up shift. You will see the japanese guys use the Ebrake a lot because thats the only way they can slow down the rear wheel speed. You'll see it a lot in following as well because im sure the drivers don't have the leisure of the instant torque a v8 has.

Nothing is special, Achilles only provide us with 265 even though daigo's car weight is okay'd for 275 (i think achilles doesn't make 275 in the S123, don't quote me on this) So if anything he is at a disadvantage on grip.

Anyways, most of our parts are off the shelf. BC racing suspension on robbies car, DG5 on daigos car. Megan arms on robbies car, ikeya formula on daigos car. Garret turbo GTX series ( off the shelf) Brian crower stroker kit off the shelf. Most of the fab work was done on the chassis for safety and or to lighten the chassis ( not like how ASD does the falken cars where their rear fenders and trunks can be compressed in a good foot before hitting the chassis ( watch the video of JTP hitting the wall at long beach and continuing his line without a hitch)

a lot of people are hating on daigo. They think his horsepower is an advantage or he has some special tricks, but the real advantage is for all those teams with a large budget running one off stuff and having a whole crew to support one car. Daigo has one mechanic ! we call him M&M. Small little japanese guy he takes care of everythiing. The only thing we help with is mounting and dismounting tires and wheels. I think people would have a better understanding and appreciation for Daigo and his crew if they saw the other side of setting up and preparation. These Japanese guys are the epitome of what we think japanese people are like, work ethic, poise, meticulous and concentration.

Also, If you guys are watching drift stream you are missing a lot of the action from the other side of the smoke. A lot of the following drivers mistakes were hidden by smoke that daigo makes. Also if you watch the match vs walker wilkerson and wondered why they turned around half way at the start. WW was suppose to lead and the car never picked up ( i think they were having fuel issues) Daigo didn't need to wait or turn around for him to restart the run, but thats part of the Japan guys mentality. They rather win fair and square.

In addition I'm not a fan of allowance to shallow up to make up for lost ground . If you watch the D1 and D1 SL guys they match angle for angle and thats how it should be for the excitement. Instead if you watch robbie vs aasbo, where is the excitement in that. Robbies hanging iit out with all the angle that the sc300 has and aasbo follows with shallow angle for the win. Not hating on Aasbo as im sure he's driving the tc to its limits but i think thats why people want to see aasbo back in the supra, because of the driving style that it brings. Big angle, foot to the floor.

From what I was told, it was special ordered from Roush pre-built and was at a price of 40k. I remember it was such a big deal when Justin blew that motor at vegas..lol.

Roush-Yates builds Nascar motors, and that FR9 is a clean-sheet small-block design... yes it's for Nascar, but holy shit is it awesome.

Luke's motor was a Turn Key Engine Supply LS3, blew up cause they're shady, then rebuilt at LG Motorsports using the same PEP rods (since they couldn't get new rods in time), then the rods went at Atlanta. Finally they built an engine that worked, and now he has a Mast Motorsports LS3... still not baller like the FR9 or any of the sprint car motors that are around.

after seeing Daigo "trick" live in person for the second time. at a different angle , its not a trick at all. that's the way he drives. deep line. lots of angle and smoke. my favorite was when Jr spun out and lost to jtphe got out of his car and started watching the big screen . made it seem like he broke a tie rod and needed toed. i watched both wheels turn when he turned the steering wheel to put it on the roll back. he lost sorely and still wanted the attention on himself.. it was so pathetic and a perfect example of poor sportsmanship
