Vlsd confusion!

OK i got this vlsd as a package r32 brakes and rear hubs and ebrake assembly, i asked the guy what kind it was he told me its a factory 240sx vlsd,lat one available from the dealer, ive been doing research and im guessing its one of the vlsd that came in HICA equipped 240s or dealer option. the thing is its just the guts of a vlsd, i got anxious so i pulled apart my diff housing took out my open diff took the bearings of it athe big gear on it and bolted those up to the vlsd and threw it in my pumpkin,but the long input shaft wont go in all the way...so im stuck..

im having the same issue as this guy shim vlsd difficulties!! : 240sx General Discussion (http://forums.nicoclub.com/shim-vlsd-difficulties-t486340.html) but mines not a shim vlsd..i dont think so

this happened to me. turns out the teeth inside the diff unit weren't aligned correctly.

thats what i think it is since i took apart the whole vlsd, damn it gunna suck to take it all out again. any other opinions before i take it apart?

VLSD & Open diffs use different shafts... i'm not 100% sure on what makes them different, i just know they are different.

ya could it be that.. s13 pumkin with s13 vlsd and s13 ring gear wont work with open diff output shafts ??

vlsd comes in a 5 bolt pumpkin not 6..the pumpkin you have is for a open diff.. cant really put a vlsd in a 6 bolt pumpkin

not entirely true.. vlsd's from a rhd silvia are 5 bolts i have 2 6 bolt vlsd's sittin on my garage floor and one on my car also 6 bolt. all 3 are from a lhd 240sx.

^^^ Correct.

Think of the center section (what you have), and the output shafts (or stub axles) as a "matched set".

Open diff center requires open diff output shafts.

VLSD center needs VLSD output shafts.

It's hard to find 6-bolt VLSD output shafts for sale separate from the diff...wha you have is basically a paperweight without the correct non-abs VLSD output shafts from a HICAS 240SX or similar.

"JDM" 5-bolt output shafts would work with your center section as well, but you'll also need J30 axles.

ok thanks, from all the research ive done it sound like your right, hmm...what to do,...
but it will work if i get those out put shafts? its fine to use the open diff ring gear??

WRONG...S14 VLSDs are 6 bolts...
