Then after i realized how much it costs to build one i didn't really care much for cars anymore. I didn't even know what a job was at that age. Was like 10 if not younger when west coast rap videos with low riders in em came out.

Never gave a shit about cars and avoided f&f movies because I thought ricers were stupid. Then I walked in on my roommate watching Tokyo Drift back in college and was captivated. Been into cars ever since. Call me stupid for getting into cars because of f&f, but I tried to avoid them goddamnit! It's my roommate's fault!

I don't actually remember what got me into cars. Some of my first memories are of scribbling sketches of crudely drawn vehicles. I even wrote to the Aston Martin telling them how much I wanted to be a car designer. They responded with a tour around the factory! This was all when I was under 10. When that first V600 Vantage fired up next to me, my fate was sealed.

The first 12 years of my life I was convinced I was going to be a car designer. Only in my teens did I realise it wasn't a practical venture. My dad wasn't a particular car head, so I'm not sure why i was so passionate about it.

Playing with lots of Mini4WD Tamiya cars/trucks, Scalextrics and other related crap when I was young really fed the modification and Japanese elements of my enthusiasm.

My car journey explained. (http://speedhunters.com/archive/2010/02/02/guest-blog-alex-quail-gt-gt-jdm-in-the-uk.aspx)

either legos or hotwheels. i've been into cars for as long as i can remember.

i used to bend the little axels on the hotwheels to make them slammed with HERRA CAMBA. then i was 12 and saw my first option video and was like, "this is what i want to do with my life."

When I was 11, my sister had a BF that had a B16? swapped Honda crx. He showed me a few things, took me to the local races with him.. and of course, I was hooked. Then a year or two later the 1st f&f came out and i think i had my parents drop me off at the movie theater like 5-6 times so i could see it, by myself even... lol

Kitt from the original knight rider, dukes of hazard. It was when I first saw McQueen in Bullit, soon after seeing gone in 60secs, is when I started saving up to get my own barnyard find; 71mach1, bought at 14 and 2 years later I had it running and could legally drive it. Going to meets with my dad, and his support, helped and eventually learned to appreciate imports.

ive always liked moving things like planes and trains but it got specific to cars kinda quick. by the time i was like 8 i had something like over 400 hotwheels and matchbox cars and a bunch of other hotwheels racetrack sets.

i'll say f&f def had something to do with it, but when it came out i really didnt have an interest in the street racing scene at all, nor did i really know anything about it. honestly the only reason why i first saw it in theaters was because dr. doolittle 2 was sold out, and i was supposed to see that.

My Great Uncle....RIP Uncle Bill :/ He had a HUGE shop and just got done restoring one of his old Buick's...he had a Buick dealership in BelAir, MD for like 20 some years...then retired, built a huge shop with anything you could ever ask for...just restored his old buick and passed away...had 4 other cars and trucks he was working on...his son Billy Jr., has had multiple bikes on the covers of multiple Bike Mags...he is missed :/

And of course my step dad...been working on cars since he was 11...been a mechanic for over 30 years now...HUGE inspiration even though we never got along TOO well...still used to be "No Man's Land" when we were out in the shop and working on stuff.

I grew up around cars. Hell, I practically learned to read with a Car Craft magazine in my hand. By the time I was 10 years old I had my own subscription to Street Rodder magazine. My Dad has a bunch of old muscle cars, 3 1962 Impala's (one of which is an original 409), a 71 big block GMC and a 71 big block chevy pickup, a 1967 GTO convertible... My first car when I was 17 was a 1968 Oldmosbile Cutlass S with 62K original miles, Im still the second owner. Somewhere around my Dad's place theres a picture of me when I was about 2 years old sitting on top of a big block Chevy that he was rebuilding. The first car I ever rode in (as in, on the way home from the hospital after being born) was a 5.0 fox body.
I guess you could say my interests in cars is just hereditary.

+1 for hot wheels and I also had these wind up race cars that ran on tracks and did loops and stuff, was awesome had a yellow lambo and a red ferrari. The next big influence would have to be back in like freshmen year of HS when I got Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero for ps2 god I would trade all my games and Xbox for a PS2 and a working copy of that game... I remember the first day i ever grew the appreciation. I was in my high school bus back in 2001. My best friend had introduced me to a magazine with hondas. I saw the articles that showed the modded cars and the pages with aftermarket accesory advertisements. Ever since then I was hooked.

And i dont see why the awe over people gaining the passion after F&F. As much as we look and see how corny it was, the industry had exploded after the release of that motion picture. IT probably wouldnt be as big as it is today without it. We probably wouldnt see the aftermarket options we have today. Real shit..

Always wanted a BMW 7 series, but my parents weren't rich so they helped me buy my first car which like always had to be reliable and good on gas which =HONDA and yet Accord! lol So picked up my first 97 Accord LX, first car lots of excitement. Then my cousin bought a same car but EX and on his valve cover it said VTEC. I wondered what VTEC meant and the journey began.

Me, pretty much hot wheels and playing old racing games on playstation and Sega Saturn. When f&f came out it introduced to the underground import tuner scene and from there on I was hooked like a fish on a line. Started out in a 90 Honda Prelude Si and a car club which was full of wild race/meet nites. Good old times.

My friends older brother got me into cars. I used to cruise in the projects with my friend, and one day his brother comes home. He was driving a custom painted 4 door DA Integra. It was custom painted blue, and was dropped on Fondmetal chrome wheels. He had an eclipse head unit, and a Collins bandpass box. Now, if you been in the game long enough, you will know about how bad ass this car must have been, back in those days. From that point on, I wanted to get into imports. I learned how to drive stick, with my boy's 89 CRX Si. My life was changed from that point on. The same friend that had the CRX, decided to buy a 97 Prelude, when it first came out. He decided he didn't like it, so I offered to take over the payments, because I was in love with that car. I was rolling around, tucking the stock 16's to the rim!! Blew up in the street racing scene, which I admit were some of the best times of my life. We were doing f&f, every night!!! Those days are long gone, but I'm still having fun, building my 13. I would never go back to Honda's, unless it was the new NSX. :yum:

Growin up my pops wasn't really around. He wasn't a deadbeat or anything he just worked a shit ton. My next door neighbor was prolly in his early thirties and was really into drag racing legal and illegal. Mostly big muscle cars and the like. I prolly annoyed the fuck outta him always asking question but always there lending a hand. From that point on I was hooked. Later on when I was driving every car I owned I couldn't leave alone. I had a couple hondas, had a jeep, and other random stuff. Went to school and got certified in different welding methods. After that got a job at a hot rod shop, and continued to bounce around at different shops learning different things motor work, wiring, bodywork etc. I actually just started playing around with 240's over the last couple of years, but my main "niche" I guess u could say is American classics. I now work for a shop in corona doin restoration and custom work for domestics from the late 30's all the way up to the early 70's

My car had a kit car when I was a kid, but sold it when he got married.

After I came along he kept his car appetite at bay with all the normal car magazines of the time: Kit Car, Car & Driver, Road & Track, Motor Trend, all of which I got second hand when he was through. I used to cut out all the awesome lambos and ferraris and make collages out of them.

when I got older I wanted to know more about them and started going back and reading the articles that no longer had photos in them haha. It just snowballed from there really.

One of my first jobs in high school was a detailer at an small garage and one of my best friends worked as a lube tech. Taught me a bunch about working on cars. Although he had an Accord he was modding, my family had always driven Nissans and I was hooked on getting the 80's 300ZX turbo (yes I'm old).

Never could save enough to find the one I wanted, then ended up moving to Japan for a year at 18. I was definitely hooked on the Z's, Supras, and Skylines that surrounded my everyday life. Also of course discovered the Initial D series, and got hooked on Gran Turismo. Then one day I was at 7-11 and I guy with a white "240" pulled up. I didn't really like the 240s in the states because the rough running KA motor, but this guy opened the hood to reveal the SR20DET. Ever since then I've loved the SR determined to build an S13 (by far my favorite of all three). 12 years later, and having owned other cars like RX7 turbos, and Z's, I still enjoy the simplicity of the 240sx...

Old photo circa 2001, my first 240SX, paid $350 for it. SR swap was beginning...

I've always liked cars. Ever since I was maybe 5 years old. My Dad has been in the auto industry for about 20+ years so I've been around them. When I was maybe 9, he took me go-karting. THAT is what sparked more than a boyhood interest in cars. In 1998, I got in my 1st street race with my Neon and THAT is what made me want to know how to make cars faster. In 1999, a friend of mine sent me some Option Magazines in effort to get me to come to Osaka for duty. THAT is what got me into drifting.

I was always one to customize my cars just to make them different from everyone elses...What really got me into this 240 thing was a combination of always wanting one...was in middle school/HS for the S13/S14 new car era and being a kid whos parents said buy your own car and work for it I could never have one...Plus always customizing one on Gran Turismo back in the day.

But what really made me get into my S13 full bore...????

I had always been into cars really. Having one in HS just made me go apeshit.

I was big into the RX7s thou, and though the S13 was fuggly as hell back in the day. After my Rex died, I was looking for another one or maybe a MR2 - but then I saw this. I still have the issue.

Man were do I start, I have been in to cars longer then I can remember.. First started with lowriders, but was to young to own one, so built me a lowrider bike and built tons of lowrider model cars with their own hydros. Then I got a Honda and missed around in that for a couple of years. Next was a Infiniti I30t which the real mods started. Changed every thing in the front over to a cefiro, did a custom turbo setup pushing 400hp. And at the time back in the late 90s changing out the rear tail lights to R34 was big, so did that...(I know)..Then jumped into the Z

I was thumbing through the channels when I was 12 or 13 and landed on Speed channel when they were having a WRC marathon. I wasted the day away. The next week I saw rallysport challenge and bought it. I've been hooked ever since. I still play the game to this day along with d1gp.

Since I was little I was always into go karts, motocross, and bikes. My dad also was into off-roading and mudding. And when i was in HS i bought my first 240, it was a kouki also. Man that thing was sweet, until one day it was involved in a hit and run. But oh well, life keeps going and you gotta move on

When my uncle turbocharged his mk1 escort in the philipines back in 1983. I watched him through the process as he was taking his head apart and have me pass him the tools. His car was blue at the time with panasports wheels just like the attached picture.

I will never forget the day he got the car started and had me rev the engine a couple of times. He blew the motor months later in a street race and the car sat in my grandparents driveway for 10 years before he decided to scrap it.

Richard tang got me into these 240s:

The main starting point for me was when i was around 12 years old, and my piano teacher's boyfriend gave me this game:

Spent so many hours playing that game and my interest for cars blossomed from there. Started out with a pos Cavalier that I riced out, but the internet turned me into the 240 and RX7 lover I am today. Haha

Always wanted to see more of that yellow fa car. Thats what got me started too kinda. Formula 3 cars, used to go to races since the moment i was born. My dad's friend was the champion of f3 in Lithuania when i was about 5 and he had a very similar car as the yellow one and it was the exact same color. Love that formula atlantic car, and the fact that its yellow brings back a lot of childhood memories.

Well unlike most from my generation I wasnt very intrested in f&f.

When I was about 15 I would ride my bike to a friends house of mine daily, one of the houses I passed would always have cars parked out front (civics, lancers, ect).

Well one day I passed and saw an all black hatch, my eyes were glued on it and I even slowed as I passed wondering WTF is that? I looked harder and saw the chrome 240sx logo glistening on the window. I was headed back home when I saw him getting in his car, all his friends were standing out front and I stopped from a distance and watched him start it up. He looked up and saw me staring then pulled out and dropped it in 2nd and continued to sling back and fourth down the street.

I didnt even know what drifting was I just loved the 240sx and prefferd the hatch but never did like the popups. I spent hours researching the car and stumbled across drifting which I thought at the time was killing off the 240's one by one, I feared they would be extinct by the time I was old enough to drive.

When my first car was wrecked by someone else I decided to try and look for somthing I really wanted, well I found a s13 hatch with a silvia front. at the time I didnt know what a silvia was but all I know was it didnt have popups so I jumped on it. greatest impulsive buy of my life.

That same chasis was used for F3 cars, just with a different engine/gearbox/bodywork. The one in the pics is a Reynard 92H. No surprise it brings back memories, especially considering the color!

It all started for me when i was around 10, my older brother had just turned 15 and got a jeep and lifted it. For a while i was all about lifted trucks but didnt know much. About a year or two later he sold it and got a s13 with a SR in it. By this time i was older and started to get into 240's started looking into swaps. Eventually he sold that 240 and then bought another hatch shell and Rb25. I had some money and with alot of research and my brothers help i bought an entire Vq35 motorset. Im now soon going to buy a 240sx shell to start swapping it into. Im only 14 turning 15 now so ive got a while before i can drive to get the swap turn key. I owe my interest in cars to my brother mostly and my dad too.

That fa car is almost identical to the f3 cars of europe in the 1990's. The aero changes were probably minimal, but im sure engine regulations were a bit more lenient in that part of the world. Awesome car, i would kill to sit in one or drive one lol.

What sparked my addiction. I guess it would of been the fault of my father. Him having a 71 S30 and taking me to school when I was younger. He also had a 66 chevy caprice. So naturally I had the best of both worlds. I used to fucking hate and wonder why I would have to help him clean and do stuff on them. Being who I am now I've couldn't think of being more privileged than ever. I started to like it more and more often. Between the road races at Moreno Valley Speedway and lowrider events around East LA I was hooked.

Other main reasons would have to be 24Hr Lemans Racing, F1, and the local drag strip.

Because of these events i have had the honor in owning all of the following chassis:

68 Fairlady Roadster

91 300zx TT

It started with my dad, and his family! My dad is from Shiner Texas, yes where the beer is made. My dad use to street race from Shiner to Yoakum TX, its a 8 mile drag one way. It was heads up racing and he had the fastest time one way and round trip! His record still stands till this day. He drove a chevy ss monte carlo with some major top end work. The main reason it stands till this day, is because the cops moniter that stretch of highway because of him and his friends street racing. Another reason is because so many people drink and drive and die on that highway. I use to run that route for cross country, sometimes one way and others times round trip. I hated the smell of that brewery at 5:30 in the morning. I just now started drinking Shiner Bock and their other beers!

Honestly, I'm 18 now... lol. Need for speed, Fast and furious, and Gran Turismo were the games that got me interested in cars. Outside of movies and games, during the summers I had nothing to do so I sat and watched AMA Superbike racing and Indy car racing. I would ride my bike down hills racing around the neighborhood trying to drag my knee while on the bike. Those were the days.... growing up sucks man and I'm not even grown yet.

Always wanted to modify my 240 but couldnt had no $$$. Kept the idea and hopefully soon ill have the quickest and fastest full body drag 240 in the world.

My Dad (before he fucked off about 20 years ago) Used the take me out to "No mans land" which was a road In between County property and an Indian reservation. All the old guy would go out there Saturday mornings, shit talk and drag race. Never had to worry about police, or traffic. It was all about muscle cars for me. In 94 or 95 I seen a 300zx in person for the first time and that was it for me, opened my eyes to the Import scene.

Its kinda funny actually. I used to be a sports nut. I played baseball from 8 years old through high school, but it was 1999 and I got my first car which was a 92 Nissan NX1600 in yellow pearl metallic, I had the oil changed at a Valvoline place for the first time and then about a month later the thing ran out of oil and spun a bearing. I got the car home and the drain plug was loose and pretty much all the oil was gone. What they did was left the broken copper washer on there and put it back together, well once it fell completely apart it leaked out all the oil. It was from that moment on that I decided nobody would touch my car besides me. I bought a haynes manual, pulled the motor, and rebuilt it when I was 16 and it ran till I sold it.

In between that time I had some friends that were into cars and ended up racing my buddies 96 B14 200sx SE-R and he absolutely left me like I was standing still so it was my goal to get an SR20 powered vehicle after that. And when I moved to texas when I was 18 I sold the NX and got my first B13 SE-R which running on 3 cylinders ran over 2 seconds quicker in the 1/4 than my full bolt on NX did.

So yeah, a shop screwing up is what got me into cars and mechanics. I pretty much ran with it after that and have now worked in shops, and have worked on, built, and tuned most basic makes and models of vehicles. SR's being my favorite.

My dad drove me around in his 70 challenger convertible when I was a baby... Pretty much dictated my future. Built lego cars, played with matchbox, got an electric porsche 911 turbo power wheels at about 3, first go kart at 6, first dirt bike at 7, first watched Vanishing Point(look it up if you haven't heard) at about 8, learned to drive stickshift yota pickup at 9. My dad restored his Challenger when I was 10 and I helped and learned a lot. Worked for dad and saved up all of my money and bought a 74 challenger when I was 13, drove that to high school, along with a few other bs daily driver transportation vehicles. Played any/all the driving games through the years and looked at magazines/online researching cars and day dreaming, oh and of course the ubiquitous f&f movies.. Found my first 240 when I was 18 and everything worked out for me to be able to get it. On my second one now. It's been lifelong for me. :2f2f:
