Okay I suppose it's time i do a thread on this to show that with a hammer, welder, limited amount of tools, and tight budget of 4500$. A lsx can be had in a car. Tonight I pulled the sr an started on the wire tuck. Il post up my build list tomorrow also with enough pictures to make a 16 year old girl who just discovered Facebook jealous

if you keep the car auto, and JUST put in the engine, you should be able to do it for 4500..

but getting an LS with T56, installed running correctly for 4500 will be cutting it extremely close.

Sorry for the late update. I'm currently on the job right now.
Update: sr swap has been pulled an waiting patiently to be sold, while that process is going on I started on slimming the body harness down an re locating all the fuse blocks. Il post pictures when I get home. An I will vouch this will not be a fail. Also I'm going with a 5.3 an a th350 or a 700r4 haven't made up my mind yet.

I don't see why it would be a total fail to have a lsx auto 240. It's cheap for one, my wallet isn't lined with gold, and 5.3's are cheap.

Because there's no man pedal.

its not the engine thats a fail. its that you dont even have the engine yet and started a "build thread" with any pics lol :bash:

If I could have it my way I would have a man pedal. I just can't afford a t56. Way out of my price range.

If you can't afford to do it right why do the swap at all? With 4500 it's going to be a backyard, cut corners kind of build. Just keep the SR and have fun. There's nothing fun about an automatic transmission unless you spend your days at the strip. Also are you planning on fabbing all your own mounts and headers? Because the sikky kit plus motor and trans is pretty much already beyond your budget.

I picked up a 5.7L for $600 got free heads and accessory's from my local shop.
A stock ls1 intake for $20
junk yard T56 for $600 (5th gear gone)
The shop i bought the Ls1 for fab me up a descent mount kit for $700
ls1 Gto oil pan for $280 (New)
Clutch and flywheel ($500)
$2700

It can be done! but it cost me more to fix everything then just to do it right the first time. plus you don't want head aches do it right the first time.

so many people bitching, i'd like to see someone do this swap on a budget, as it wouldn't be a bad basis for other people looking for a cheaper more hands on approach and doing the swap.

And really who give's two shit's if the car is automatic or 6spd?

A 700r4 w/ a manual valve body can do anything a manual trans does with the comfort of an auto...you can go from automatic to manual w/ just a shift(U need a dual gate shifter and trans cooler).....I had one on my 89' trans am GTA 350 TPI w/ 700r4 trans, and it was loads of fun.....in fact i still have the motor and trans once i see how this turns out i might transplant it in one of my s13's
