Hey i have a 1990 s13 hb. The taillights dont come on when i turn the lights on. They do work properly when i press the brake, use turn signals, and put it in reverese. So all the lights work they just arent on all the time like they should be when i have the switch on all the way.
Also the front right head light doesnt work either. Ive checked all the fuses and grounds and their fine. i need to get it inspected so please help!!!! thanks!

Rear running lights r connected to the same circuit as marker lights and
cluster...
Check for a bad connection since u claim theres no bad fuse
also check ur fuse panel they get funny with age
make sure fuse is getting power and check all the lights to with tester..
And back track from there...

What light bulbs do you have in your taillights? Does your cluster light up when turning on the headlights? I've had a very similar problem.

some bulbs for the taillights have two connections and some have one. MAKE SURE all the bulbs are in their respective spots

im not sure i follow, Do you mean the bulbs could be switched around because all the lights work, the running lights just dont come on when you flip the switch

Maybe try looking under your dash at the stop lamp fuse. This was my problem. Did you recently wire a radio into your car?

I checked that fuses and it fine. There was a aftermarket radio when i got the car.. and ive had this problem the whole time ive had the car. Also you have to switch the switch like ten times before the headlights come on. Dont no if that has anything to do with it but defently shouldnt be doing that.

i had a similar problem a while back. dash lights and rear lights would go out while driving.i replaced the turn signal/lights lever (or what ever its called) and it fixed the problem, it was all corroded inside. not sure if it may be that, but just some input u can try checking. gl

Yeah i think this might have something to do with it because you have to twist the switch back and forth like 10 times before the headlights come on.
Do you think i could just cut the wires and hook them up to a regular switch and see if they work? There are 4 wires that go to the switch. I think they were black, green, pink and red (not by my car so dont no for sure tho)

Also if anyone knows what the green wire with white strip does that would be great.
Thanks

Know this thread is old, but I am having the same problem.

First, brakes just didn't illuminate when I pressed pedal, but the tailights would still comes on when I turned my lights on. I have ALWAYS had to toggle the switch to the lights a million times before they would actually work, and sometimes they would simply popup even when I turned the switch to off.

Recently, my guage lights went off, and my taillights no longer work at all either.

Not installed an aftermarket radio. Did take one out, but problem didn't start right away. Fuse blows for tailights whenever it is replaced.

Anybody find a DEFINITE solution?
