I love the cluster and everything functions properly except for the speed still reading double after swapping to a single cam VSS. I also have an Auto nx1600 VSS which I pulled with the cluster at the scrapyard. The nx VSS is from a 92 and will not fit in the sensor hole on my dohc tranny. If you or someone you know has got their cluster reading the correct speed, please let me know which speed sensor you/they used. I'm out of ideas and have been searching all week. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

what engine do you have?? if you have the ka24de and the stock speed sensor it shouldnt double, all the clusters i wire up and sell never double the only thing i can think that would make that happen is if it was wired wrong or ur not on mph cause that what happened to me and i pressed the button and it read mph and everything was fine.

can this swap be done on an s14?

I have a 5 speed ka24de and the original speed sensor. I have tried a 5 speed ka24e speed sensor, still reads double. I'm 99% positive the wiring is done right. The cluster came from a 92 auto nx1600 with a ga16de. The only thing I can think of that I havent tried is to get a auto ka speed sensor. Is there a difference between the auto/manual speed sensors or a difference between the dual/single cam speed sensors? I've researched this for over a week now and cant seem to find a picture of the actual pinion for the auto and manual speed sensors so I really dont know if they have a different number of teeth or read differently. Im sure its possible in an s14 although I have not tried to do the research or have an extra cluster lying around. Any information helps, thanks again.

I don't think anyone has accomplished this yet. You can always be the first!:rawk:

Auto and Manual Speed sensors ARE different. That could be your problem sir.

the speed sensor being auto or manual isnt going to make a difference when you do a five speed swap from auto you dont go get a manual cluster you put in a manual speed sensor and drive. if you are having this problem and cant figure it out why spend all this money putting new parts into it, double check your wiring and make sure your not stuck on km/h....
if you continue to have problems pm me and let me know you can send it to me and i will double check the wiring and test it out in my car that i know they work perfectly in since i have done a couple now and ppl are happy with them i just bought another one to wire up and sell and im on vacation and have ppl waiting to buy the one i have for sale and im also going to wire up this dudes cluster for him as soon as i get it

yup, the auto uses a different speed sensor than the 5 spd. end of story, same thing happened to me.. got an auto cluster

Well considering my wiring is done perfectly from both FSM's I am 99% sure it's not the wiring. I'm not an idiot, it's on MPH. I did swap it to 5 speed with ecu and all. The NX cluster is from an auto which makes me think it might work with an auto VSS. By the way I have not spent a dime on any of the speed sensors, I have picked them up from friends and have been testing them out to see if there is any difference. Which the auto VSS does look a bit different from the manual, that's why I am going to try the auto VSS out. I haven't had time to put it in, I will update when I do. Thanks for all the info everyone!

That's what I'm thinking. You have an auto NX cluster?

that makes no sense, i have and five speed car that i did the five speed swap on i left the auto ecu and cluster in and everything works perfectly even all the clusters i have had and wired work perfectly fine never had this magical double speed nonsense that people talk about from time to time. theres nothing integrated into a cluster that tells it if there is an auto or manual speed sensor in there. thats like saying that i have to put an auto speed sensor in my tranny or my AUTO HUD CLUSTER will double WHICH ITS NOT

ive done it and got it to work...like i said theres 4 different clusters, the wireing has nothing to do with it reading doble...let me see if i can find one for you that will work if you want to buy it but they are not cheap something like $120

just get a dakota digital speed converter.the PPMs (pulsepermiles) is different thats why it sees double, its like $70

Update: After trying the auto speed sensor, it still reads double. The speed sensor was a bit different though.

Thanks for the help Dark spec, I've been trying to find different speed sensors on courtesyparts.com but you can't really tell which ones are which. I'm guessing you need a 35-36 tooth VSS pinion? Still guys, any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

I've been looking at these. It seems fairly easy to wire up but how do you adjust it to the correct speed is my concern? If I don't find a speed sensor I may go with one of these.

idiot. this is the main reason there is so much false info floating around.
purplove, you need an s14 speed sensor (plastic housing) and you probably have a 93 year model cluster (dosnt matter if its atx or mtx).
i wrote up a very detailed how to with differences between both style clusters ------> TexasNissans.com (http://texasnissans.com/tx/forums/showthread.php?p=166293#post166293)
there is also videos in that how-to of the same cluster reading double with an s13 sensor then changing to an s14 sensor and it reads perfect.

I havent checked this thread for a while, but that s14 speed sensor worked fine. It's funny how everyone told me to get dakota digitals and auto speed sensors(which don't fit at all). good call corby.
