View Full Version : Is anyone else concerned about radiation from japanese parts!?

240jake
02-24-2012, 10:27 AM
So i just finished reading an article about how theyve measured radiation levels higher than chernobyl in tokyo park!

Whats the deal with all these shipments of fresh jdm motors and parts, are they being checked!?

Just a concern that i dont see many people expressing here, as we know the truth is not being told about how bad it is in Japan.

Personally im concerned about parts coming out of Japan and I think everyone should be as well.

Thats my point here is that everyone's just like oh the govt says everything is fine and not testing anything.

Meanwhile theyve stopped several shipping containers and even flights out of Japan for high levels of radiation.

Alot is at stake here concerning commerce and they stand to loose billions if these things were deemed unsafe, whenever money is involved I dont expect the truth and neither should you.

It is funny how the safe level of radiation in America is much higher than that for Europe.

As for everyone on here shrugging this off and making fun of the thread creator, it may not be as serious as he makes it sound to be, but at the same time there is probably something to it.

No radiation from Japan will kill anyone here, as chances are it would most likely just manifest itself in a slight increase of women miscarrying and kids being born with birth defects.
And as entertaining as it is to joke about microwaves causing cancer, they are definitely not healthy.

240Jake,

While it may not be a significant concern in car parts due to the small amount of volume, it is a very real concern for everything America imports. In today's world, manufacturing is global and it is a scary thought to have radiation leakage in products. Same goes with the small traces of lead. The radiation levels pumping out at that nuclear plant are scary and there is fall out, just not in America at this time.

Thanks for bringing up the subject and hopefully there are more educated responses as it is a good topic for discussion.

Well the reports are from the UN I read back a couple of months, were that radiation were roughly double than what was originally reported. Its definitely far worse than what people thought. I traveled to Tokyo like last month, it wasn't a real big deal and life at least in the areas not affected have been moving right along, but you do see telecasts about people that are still affected and its heart wrenching. Most can't move back to areas they used to live and they are living in like government shacks, but they are making due....

Sad but still a tough time in Japan. Truthfully most parts that come out of Japan that are used are from Osaka or Tokyo auctions which chop cars up and sell them to the US. Not much stuff up North, so parts are pretty much radiation free.

Oh noes I better be careful my singer is Japanese and from Tokyo she might cast radiation on me. LOL Seriously. Matej has a point about the radiation level standards here vs Europe.

As far as Japan goes, yes in fact there is a problem in areas right around Fukishima though in Tokyo? Not at this point. in parts coming here? LOL ya right. Like others have said, the major car company's would be checking there stuff and the used parts tend to come from Tokyo and more southern regions.
As far as it affecting us here? No, the radiation that did get released was in the localized regions and due to the distance of the U.S. from Japan it would have no effect on us.

Every US port has Radiation detectors. So does the postal service. Heck, they even have them on the sides of the road these days to check truck shipments. If not for these, every anti-American entity out there would simply be shipping dirty bombs all over the country.

Now, I am not saying this whole thing is a joke. I am simply saying that freaking out about it is most likely not necessary.

Yes, the people in the immediate area are seeing side effects, but the levels that are leaving the country are another story.

I grew up next to Three Mile Island. I have been inside the part of the plant that shut down after the accident, with no protective equipment on. I also just went through some Chemotherapy. I still don't glow in the dark, nor have I grown any new tentacles.

Radiation is a serious threat, but more people need to understand it. Worrying about getting cancer from your new engine set is just slightly silly. Unless maybe it was parked in the parking lot at the Fukushima plant last March. Even then, I still highly doubt it has made it through customs.

You guys are so ignorant and naive.

This is a legitimate concern. At my company we were concerned with the laptops we were getting from japan.

The radiation levels are through the roof and there's been a coverup by the US government and Japanese government from the get go of the leak and meltdown.

The radiation levels were covered up as well and 'safety' levels were RAISED... and RAISED again.. and again... so legally they are saying it's 'safe' but technically they just RAISED the safety margin and limit.

Open your eyes and stop being TOOLS. Do not buy pacific fish either...

You ever ask yourself WHY cancers are on the rise? In countries like kosovo, serbia, libya, iraq its because of depleted uranium use by the united states army. Otherwise in the last century mainly due to nuclear wepaons testing by western governments and Russia. Another contributing factor is increase of microwaves from a variety of devices. Even the so called 'non-lethal' microwave weapons induce cancers.

Depleted uranium means that it contains a lower percentage of U-235 than what is found in the naturally occurring stuff in the ground. You're a tool. Let me guess you believed the government when they said Iraq had wmd, was behind 911 and sponsored 'alqaeda'. Did you also believe the US court ruling that Iran was behind 911 and that now Iran has WMD, or almost has them, or about to have them and quick quick fear fear panic panic lets invade another country?

You know the difference between us? I have a degree in nuclear engineering and you are just regurgitating shit you heard on the internet.
Like I mentioned previously, depleted uranium is actually LESS dangerous than the kind that is mined out of the dirt. The kind that is naturally occurring can be found in your drinking water in trace amounts. The government didn't put it there...it is naturally occurring.

According to the article you linked the new limit they imposed on civilians in Japan is about 2 Rem (20 mSV is 2 Rem). That is 3 Rem less than I am allowed to receive in a year at the facility I work at, and it is 48 Rem less than what is considered to be dangerous.

I'm sure your sources at Youtube say otherwise, but unless you hang out in the water immediately adjacent to the plant or you actually go into the plant you, as well as your car parts, probably aren't in any real danger.

I'm popping in to say our planet is way past repair. Live your life. Worrying about this shit wont fix it. You can't clean the shit up really. Look at Chernobyl. Will be a fucking ghost town long after all of us, our kids and our grandkids are dead and in the ground.

My father was a nuke tech for the navy. Retired now, he's a civilian nuke tech. Has worked at a good bit of facilities all up and down the east coast. Aint SHIT you, me or anyone else can do about it really. Radiation can only be contained in lead really. And the half life is fucking absurd. It just keeps emitting radioactive particles until it because lead....

I know alot of shit i wished i didn't. "clean power" my ass.......

The concern at this point is not just parts, though that's what i originally started this thread being concerned about.

At this point the bottom line is radiation is effecting people greatly in Japan, and people over here want to just laugh about it and call people "conspiracy theorists" or nutters. No, because you read it online doesnt mean its all true, but you arent getting the truth from the MSM as gullible as you want to be, you think the media/govt would tell people they are dieing and cause mass panic?
cmon use your brains.

Thanks to the ones with brains in here actually reading up and researching this.

You know there has been legitimate research done by people on this and you can't discount that.

Also, some of the youtube videos have been made by people IN JAPAN, showing the effects of radiation exposure, how is this not legitimate?

None of it has been posted in this thread, I can tell you that.
Just because people in Japan made a youtube video doesn't mean it's legitimate. Do you know how many people in Japan were against nuclear power even before Fukushima? There is plenty of resistance for nuclear power both in Japan and the US, meaning that they have motives to make BS videos about the effects of Fukushima.
Yes, it is a tragedy, but it has been blown out of proportion by many people. Chernobyl was much worse than this and the world didn't end.

Customs will do there job in detecting radiation, if its OL then it will get rejected.

I would be scared if you lived by whitesands:keke::keke::keke::keke::keke:

A lot of containers come in from Japan everyday, I'm sure some of them are scanned by Customs/Homeland Security on arrival for radiation and all kinds of other shit. I really don't see them letting a bunch of radioactive jdm parts and motors that don't conform to EPA regulations in the first place go through. I was in Japan just under a year ago and I don't glow or have any extra limbs yet, nor am I worried about it. If I get cancer it'll be through normal channels like smoking or the large hole in the ozone above ATL.
