Greetings

So im another 240 lover from California, I just recently purchased an s13 coupe shell for $400, rigged with some suspension..sweet deal :yum:. I then go to the dmv to transfer the title etc.. and there is a fucking $660 fee on this shit. It is all from late registration..the guy apparently hasnt registered the vehicle since 2006 nor did he file it for non-op. I fuckin knew it was too good to be true. My friend then tells me I should've checked the vehicle history first but that was after I knew you could do that . I was actually wondering if anybody knew anyway around this mess.. My uncle is telling me there might be a way around it by filing for Affidavit but he didnt speak good english so i barely understood him, plus he is no longer here.. any advice on how to shave some $$ off of this fee would help.

You can try and talk to a manager at DMV, they lowered price to me before.
File a complaint, write letter.
Get a cheap wrecked 240, cut vins out and put on your car (WORST CHOICE).
Never pay fees, other wise your just their bitch.
Or Buy my car trailer and my Q45 for daily and to tow it with and your all set. 2600 for trailer and 2600 for Y33. The Q drifts so smooth, like a Jaguar, not the car but the actual lines of a Jaguar.

So you picked up a 240 and got it registered for less than 1100?

I fail to see the problem. You just didn't get as great a deal as you thought. Deal with it.

Might be if you're planning to swap the motor. Or if you're good with doing some of your own work.

Otherwise no.

why so much, i bought mine back in 2003 and didnt pay all the fees that i needed till 2011, and it was only $400 plus $12 for "NOP" for the last year, maybe there where back fees the previouse owner forgot to tell you about. And yes you can go online and check the fees on any car as long as you have the VIN.

i've gone to the point where i've actually thought about this..would I then just tell the dmv that the car (with the $660 fee)is totaled? would they still require me to pay the fee if its totaled?

You realize that's more than likely illegal right? Not saying I'm goody two shoes, but might not be something you wanna publicly say.

well you're the new owner, so you can either pay the fee or try to ask for a lower amount. other than that you're screwed-let it be a lesson to do more research before you buy

Well if i were to get it I would be pretty broke for a while unfortunately till my paychecks start stackingvup each week =]

What kinda things can you say to get them to lower the fee? Don't wanna seem like I'm tryna steal the thread but o feel that this would help alotta people who end up having backfees

I don't see the problem. you got a 400 dollar car. pay the fees and drive it. worst that can happen is that you wreck it and your out 400 bucks.

sucks its a 600 dollar fee. but like said before you own a car for a 1000 bucks. it runs good so whats the problem ?

When I got my Z it was a shell, built it over a year and a half and beer registered it or paid the tag up to date, then when I went to the DMV I just had to show them a receipt for the motor and they took the fees off since it wasn't running
