leave it till you get to a gas station staying low in revs so you can ge ta few quarts of oil, then check it every once and a while and replace oil you loose

Does your insurance cover free towing? If not, get AAA. I wouldn't risk it.

I have some kind of duct tapish electrician tape. Three layers it seems to be holding at idle. I'm worried it might fall in though

why!?

you dont' have a bike to ride to the local shop. There has to be something you can do then resort to this.

I drove about 35 miles on the highway without an oil cap and not a single problem. The only reason I noticed it was missing was because while driving I noticed a strong gas smell. I guess I changed the oil and forgot to cap it? The only down side was that oil was all over the bay.

My car was smoking crazy from the oil hitting the exhaust. Probably excessive crankcase pressure pass the rings

I drove down the hwy for about 50 K then started to go hard on her and noticed a ton of smoke from the oil hitting the exhaust.

turns out I forgot to put the oil cap back on after the oil change. lucky for me it was tucked by my slave cylinder when I looked for it ( was left on the valve cover )

you could limp it, if you have extra oil in your car, but it would be easier to call a friend then risk engine getting full of dust or catastrophic engine failure.

This happened to me in my AE.

I drive normal. Should be ok. You'll have oil under the hood. but yeah.

I remember seeing pictures of someone that used a rag to plug up their valve cover for a similar problem. Long story short the rag go caught up in the cams and made a complete mess in there, bent all the valves, no bueno

Duct tape is the only thing i can think of but i would just go straight for the tow, nevermind the fact that the ductape is gona get all gunked up and baked on the VC cause of the heat so it will be a biotch to clean unless you dont care

Break into a random Nissan in the parking lot, pop the hood and take the cap. Leave a note that says "Sorry for breaking your window and stealing your oil cap, I will replace both of them for you, here's my number because it'll be cheaper than my engine catastrophically blowing up. Thank you for your consideration."

This thread is dumb.

The correct answer is:

You find a water bottle and crush it flat until it is up to the neck funnel. You dont crush it all the way so that you invert the round neck into the oil cap hole. You then undo your shoe lace tie the crushed bottle in the middle of the lace and tie one end to the intake manifold and tention the other to lets say the dizzy while the lace is holding the inverted upsidedown crushed bottle in place. Use 2 lace in an x pattern if you want extra hold down. A poweraid or soda bottle would be stonger at the rim but harder to crush. Cutting the bottle at the rim will do as well. Use your cig lighter to cut the bottle if needed. Oh and you must have a cap on the bottle. Duh.

Most likely u wont have duct tape. But trash like a water bottle is everwhere and unless you are 10 years old your shoes have laces. Fatlaces would be ftwwww.

DO NOT use anything like a water bottle. It will melt.

^ not true.
some of the old hot-rod guys would use this trick in a pinch. Not saying you can drive it for a day or so, but it will get you to a parts store.
Also you can use a snuff can.....that Copenhagen to you city folks.
I personally carry a spare trifecta: oil gas radiator.
