Oh fine, I suppose I should make the post somewhat worthwhile. DSC is sending me his old 240 shifter, and I'm going to try and install it in my truck. I'll let you all know if it works.

wow... so if the shifter fits, you can get a short shifter for the truck....... makes me want to get a D21 to beat around

Uh, the pickups aren't really that great to beat around in . At least stock, they are slow as ####. That KA engine does great in a wee bity 240sx, but terribly in my dad's extended cab pickup. Then again, the standard shortbeds are gonna be quite a bit lighter, especially with no camper shell. Plus, Chicken's been working on his I'll stick to playing with my Cheyenne 1500 shortbed. That one is a kick to tool around in :-)

had a 1990 hardbody shortbed I used to rip around the hills of San Francisco with it was a blast . i had that truck for 7 years it was great had loads of power . iI think it was lighter than our cars . hhhhhmhmhm maybe I should get another one for hauling parts and beating.

The only problem with the short shifter is I think it would be too low.
And yeah, the trucks are slow as shit in stock form. HOWEVER, once you get rid of that ridiculous stock double muffler system, add a breathable intake, and lose the 12 lb clutch fan, it begins to break the slow barrier. Seriously thinking about getting the camshaft grind. Been corresponding with Jeff from Colt Cams in BC.
BTW, the truck's dry weight is 2800 pounds. I've found that with myself in the truck, is weighs about 3000 with gas in the tank.
One more thing, I think the earlier model Nissans had better gearing in the rear. Mine has 3.55's which suck. I may still switch it out to the 3.90 of the automatic, which I was told is what it has. However, when looking at a junkyard parts search, said the MT came with both 3.55 and 3.90's, while the auto came with 4.11's. That may have been 4x4 I'm thinking. But not like it would matter. It's a truck! If I get it low enough, I'll have a granny first, then use 2-5 as the regular shifting.

my 90 Hardbody had 4.00 gears with the 5 speed. might explain why it had some get up and go though gas mileage was not more than 25 MPG at best on the freeway and we don't even want to get into what it got in the city. hahahhahahaha

I figured that's why I missed out on the low end torque. On the other hand, I can get 45 mpg if I keep it in 5th gear at 2000 rpm. (55 mph) BUT WHO THE FUCK WANTS TO GO 55?!!!!!! I think I'll go back with my original plan of yanking the rear end out of the auto 96 Nissan in the Tucson junkyard. It's 350, but it would be nice to get some of the low end back. That one is 3.90.

once i go for more power i'm going for the 3.70 gears from nismo, in a limited slip differential. 67mph at 3000rpm just isn't cutting it. plus i don't do city driving. hey maybe i'll save some clutch with those gears.
