I have for sale my 1998 240SX. I've looked continuously for one solid year before I found this car. It looks and drives like it's straight off of the dealer floor. Had plans for a big turbo, but it's just too nice of a car to molest. The less I drive it, the less I want to drive it because I know there is probably only a handful of cars out there like this.
I am the third owner. The first owner put around 60K miles on it. The 2nd owner put around 2-3K mile son it, and had it in his garage for about 7 years. He intended to use it for an audio project, but had to sell due to his growing family + career. I put the remaining mileage on it commuting to and from work in about a year's worth of time. I put a total of probably 500 miles on it in the past year.
It only comes out when it's a beautiful day outside. It otherwise stays in a garage. I have a daily driver that I use to commute with.
Interior is 10/10. Exterior is 9/10.
Shifting is butter-smooth. Oil changed with Mobile 1 synthetic and OEM Nissan filters when in my possession.
Modifications: (Only modifications are from the previous owner)
- Nismo aluminum oil fill cap
- generic strut bar
- Nismo shift knob
- previous owner replaced the positive and negative terminals with really high quality audio terminals and audio cables. There are also some extra high cables in the rear of the car where the owner planned to mount an audio system. When I checked on these terminals, they were like $50-60, so I decided to keep them.
- Nismo radiator cap
Vehicle Issues:
- It needs the plastic press in clips that hold the trunk lining in place due to the previous owner pulling the panels off.
- A/C needs a recharge. It blew cold when I first bought it, but cold air stopped probably 5-6 months in.
- X2 minor dime size ding on rear QP
- some idiot at my apt complex cut into/out of a parking spot too sharply and grazed my bumper. Present on right rear bumper corner. There are absolutely no bumper misalignment issues.
- missing the removable cigarette lighter (outlet works perfectly)
- burned out foglight
- tires have thread, but could use replacement due to age. I wouldn't doubt it if they were only the second set of tires on the car.
- brakes have some slight runout when stopping aggressively at higher speeds (>70 MPH), but there is no pad indicator noise
Looking mainly to trade for the following, but would consider selling outright for the right price (I need to figure out a selling price):
- clean stock rust-free S13 COUPE +cash (I will be doing an LSX swap and am looking for this car) (a super clean Silvia front end would make me more interested)
- LS3 swap parts + cash of course
Let me know if you have any questions.
FYI when I purchased this car and first registered it in NY, it passed NYS Inspections without a problem (safety check and emissions).

I beg to differ, there are some perfectly legitamate people on here who are honest, and will pay for it. I have been searching for a car like this for awhile, and I would be willing to pay whatever i think it is worth if i look at it. I wouldnt be a cheap ass mofo who is looking to rape someone on a clean ass car like this one

My apologies to all for not responding to PM's. Trying to decide on price for this car. It's hard to do when there are only 1-2 others in similar shape, selling for a good deal of money.
I am also trying to find the time to take pictures of all the imperfections on the car so you know exactly what you're getting.
For all you low-ballers, don't even think you'll be getting a steal here. If it does not sell, I will be putting it away in storage.
I am convinced that there is only a few hundred of these left (bone stock, not beat up).

As far as shipping goes, I would consider it on your expense. I would much rather deal in person and have cash or some type of certified check. You would need to wait until it clears fully before the car even leaves the garage.

This car is worth WELL over 7k. Especially if he brings the couple minor modifications back to USDM/OEM. (shifter, oil cap, etc.)
Besides the one sitting in my garage (not for sale), show me a TRULY unmolested 98 kouki factory 5 speed that really fits the "excellent" condition category.
This car and any 98 manuals left stock and taken care of are only going to go UP in value....and become harder and harder to find.
My opinion...10k+, especially if he has paperwork to prove the car is what he says.
GLWS, I'm looking forward to some interior, trunk, and motor bay shots.

I have a black 98 LE 5spd in the garage that is absolutely mint and the small things I've done to it can easily be reverted back to stock. With that said these are not 69 Camaro's and they are still a LONG way from going UP in value. I think if you truly think about that you would agree. They are at least a decade away from ever going up in value and that's still a HUGE IF (I don't think they will ever be worth much). Name another car in history that was an economy sports car when sold new and was going up in value when it was 15 years old??? Never, it would be hard to name one that was going up in value at 25 years old. I think $10k is a little crazy, if you remember the green 97 SE 5spd with 33k miles on it sold on here two years ago for $8500.
I agree with the OP completely, this is a super nice car, and in great shape, and $7k is very fair. It should sell really fast now that the price is set. I know a few people that are looking for a really nice car up that way and I will email this to them right now.

Ok, first. The owner never set the price at 7k. He said it will sell higher. The BUMP was not posted by him.
Your right about the comparison to a Camaro, but were talking 10k not 50-100k.++ (69 rs ss matching #'s) Also keep in mind were discussing a discountinued car, the last year, and the rarest of its breed. And were in a market that is currently on fire for this car.
I do not know if the 97 was a Kouki so I can't be for sure I can even compare the cars.
My opinion holds on this cars value to the right buyer. This is a matching numbers, factory 5 speed and a KOUKI (being a kouki is the key to this cars value)
I am curious, and this shows my point of finding these cars in original condition.......Are your rear fenders rolled? Do you really think they can be brought back to OEM? Can they even be repaired without paint?, the answer is no. You could never return to stock, you could repair though.
Look at ORIGINAL vs. restored car prices.
Either way, great car and if he waits for the right buyer it should sell for well over 7k.

So you're trying to speak on the value of this car and you don't know if a 97 was a kouki?? Get real man, we're talking about a car that sold for $22k brand new and you think 15 years later its worth $10K?? These cars will probably NEVER be collector cars, they just don't have what it takes. Yeah they were made in limited numbers here in the states, but so was a Lexus IS sport wagon, doesn't mean its going to be worth a fortune one day. Just because the market is hot right now for this car doesn't mean its going to go up in value. Its hot because of the drift scene, which is slowly getting in-fluxed with cheaper and cheaper 350z's, so as they become more affordable, the need for S-chassis gets lower and lower. If you don't believe me pay attention to how long it takes to sell one of these cars now a days for more than $5k that isn't absolutely exceptional like the OP's car. You're living a pipe dream man, cars are a really really bad investment, and the Nissan 240sx isn't going to be the exception, GT3 RS's, ZHP BMW's, and Black edition Benz's will be.
As for my fenders being rolled, they weren't done with a hammer, so they can be repaired. And as for the price difference between original and restored, I think if these cars did defy history and become collectable, mine being an LE would make up for it. Do I need to explain to you what an LE is??
Ok so he didn't set the price at $7k but he said it would be in that range but above that mark, which is fair.
Once again, BEAUTIFUL car, I'm sure someone will be in contact with the OP soon. I sent it to three people in Michigan so I would expect at least one of them to be in touch today. If not there are some serious buyers around this forum too.

I found the thread with that green kouki. He was asking $12K for it and did not state what it sold for. Buyer stated he bought it for ~$9500 in a PM.

I spent more than $7K on mine. I threw that number out there to avoid lowball offers.

Dudermcgee also says he paid $9k for it in this thread.
How much should I pay for a kouki?? (http://zilvia.net/f/chat/435769-how-much-should-i-pay-kouki.html)
Either way its got a 1/3rd of the miles on it.
Look I agree your car is worth more than the normal kouki. Is it worth $10k?? If someone will pay that for it then yeah. Do I think that's a fair price? no but my idea of a fair price doesn't matter. I sent the car to some friends of mine that are looking for a clean stock car. They aren't going to pay you $10k for it. But they would be willing to pay more than $7k of course.
Good luck with it man, its a nice car. The point I was making is that these cars are NOT classics. It was never meant to be a stab at your or your asking price. You will get a premium for your car.

Why is everyone getting all tore up over cars that are at bare minimum at least 14 years old now..... I just bought a brand new 2012 mustang gt and it kicks these cars' ass in all categories. this car is unique. its one of very few kouki s14s that has low miles and has not had the shit modified out of it. Your 2012 GT, as nice as it is, is nothing close to unique and any number of retards will buy em with no idea of what they are worth (not saying you are one of them). I dont know exactly what this s14 would be worth but I'd put the price anywhere in the high 8-9K. the OP will have to be patient though, a car like this will not sell overnight.
glws bro, you have a hell of a clean kouki there.

It's a 98, it's an SE (not LE), it's almost completely original (excepting very few minor things), and it's in excellent condition (also excepting the couple dings mentioned). Personally, I'd put it at 8.5-9. 10 would be pushing it, but you might just find that ONE fanatic out there willing to spend the dough.

And LE would be worth MORE. They are higher end. I think you meant its not a BASE model.
Marenta
02-23-2012, 02:37 PM
I listed everything that would modify the price either up or down. Obviously if it were LE, it'd be worth the 10K.
The year: increase.
Model: decrease.
Modifications: either way, they're so minor.
Condition: either way, the dings are so minor.

Why is everyone getting all tore up over cars that are at bare minimum at least 14 years old now..... I just bought a brand new 2012 mustang gt and it kicks these cars' ass in all categories. I used to be a die hard JDM tyte 240 fan boy, had my share of the cars, and I'll never go back to 14+ year old rust buckets.
:keke:
my 240 would walk all over your mustang....I promise. :2f2f:
Oh, and not a single spec of rust on my entire 15 year old car.
Bump for a clean car.

In the 6 yrs I've had my car the retail has increased to $9,200 which is $700 more than I paid. With the miles and everything, I've only lost $700 so please tell me how they haven't increased in value please? And you wanted a few examples of 15+ year old cars that are worth more now... the Supra and the Rx-7 are two that I know off the top of my head. Don't take $7k for this car, there's two bone stock on autotrader for over $10k

No I wanted examples of economic two door cars that were worth half their retail price 15 years later. Neither of the two cars you said fall in that category. But keep thinking these cars are in the same class as a MK4 supra and an FD. Which by the way if you look at prices on either of those, they have come way down in price in the last four years. You can buy an FD now for under $10k and there are turbo supras out there for under $20k.
As for your car going up in value you're out of your mind, look at what they actually sell for not what Kelly blue book inflates it to. 4 years ago a kouki with 100k miles would still go for $10,500ish, now you can get them for $4k. How is that an increase in value? I have an nada book from 2005 and a 98 books out at $12,452 with 65k miles on it. So if yours is close to that now and books for $9200 that's a loss in value. Stop living the pipe dream that these cars are going to be worth more and more every year.

I found the thread with that green kouki. He was asking $12K for it and did not state what it sold for. Buyer stated he bought it for ~$9500 in a PM.
http://zilvia.net/f/cars-sale/341044-fs-1997-240sx-kouki-all-original-29k-miles-mint-5-speed.html
I spent more than $7K on mine. I threw that number out there to avoid lowball offers.
buyer bought it for 9500, but the car had 29k miles. if you had 29k miles im sure it will sell for 10k but you dont, you have 72k miles so i think you can get between 7-8k for this. but it a Beautiful car. GLWS
I am very interested in the car. Let me know if you're willing to sell the car.

$10k is fucking nuts, I can't bear to pay that much for stock 1997 S14 when I paid $13,500 from a dealer in 2000. With the way the economy has been the last few years, finding people with that much cash to throw away for a stock car is far and few in between. No bank in their right mind will loan you $10k for a 240sx.
The funny thing is, there's another clean white kouki right below this thread, with a fairly modded SR swap for $12.5k.
dudermagee
03-18-2012, 03:31 PM
LOL If it were mine I'd try and sell it for that much if I wasn't in a rush.
That being said the one I bought was originally going for 12k, a bunch of people put down his asking price too (fliprayzin240sx being one of them), I told him how much I would pay, he countered, now its mine. Can't remember if I paid 9k or 9.5k though.
He was in no rush to sell, I was looking for something I could 100% call my own, and I had the cash laying around.
GLWS OP, just wait and you'll get close to your asking price.

As far as I know there are only about 300 '98 5-speeds made and only about 2200 were made overall (Correct me if im wrong). I bought my '98 se with leather and completely stock from a dealership in Kansas for $4700 with 120k miles. With the low mileage on your car it is worth alot more than mine!

as mentioned, i think OP should hold firm to 10k+.
people fall in love with certain cars and im sure theres people that truly love the kouki in stock form. those people are the ones willing to pay asking price for a clean condition car like this.
that being said i think there are plenty of examples of "economic cars" that still hold much value.
some examples include:
ap1 - ive seen these go for around 20k even for higher mileage clean conditioned versions.
mr2 turbo - same story with the condition of the car and the audience viewing it. there are many that would pay 10k for a clean example
240z - these are over 40 years old and craigslist has slighly rusted examples going for the same numerical dollar price as they sold back then. (i know inflation but if you're talking about halfsies, i think this would apply)
z32 - clean twin turbo low mileage examples are still asking for mid teens. this is my love. i would pay 15k for a low mileage clean example that was unmodified.
eg civics - same condition original examples that are un modified (read: unmolested) are going for around 6, and this car new was around 10k.
generally, modifications lower resale value. so whoever said they wouldnt pay this much for a stock car is absolutely wrong. if you had a classic car and had it appraised (typically clean examples of real classic cars are investments) modifications would lower bring your overall value down.
cars are poor investments. i wouldnt recommend anyone to "invest" in a car. I think the true meaning of the word "invest" gets lost around here as adding mods to a car is not investing into it. rather just depreciating the asset with non original parts, regardless of how "rare jdm" the part is or who tuned it.
OP: free bump for you. i like your car. im not interested in buying it but if i were in the market for one. i would highly consider paying your asking price for it. i got love for all nissan sports cars. and clean examples are hard to come by especially within the s-chassis community where 80% of the owners drift/crash/hellaflush their cars.

If I were you I wouldn't even consider selling this car. As far as this discussion on value goes, who the hell cares? The idea of a cars value is arbitrary at best. When you place a value on a vehicle, especially ones like this, it is only to consider with respect to worth, excellence, usefulness, or importance. All of these categories are unique to any individual.
The things you have to consider are the facts that this is the last of the S Chassis in the U.S. This is the rarest car of it's breed with only a little over 3000 produced in this body style, God knows how many still exist. It is one of the last true front engine rear wheel drive vehicles. Lastly, it depends only on the personal attachment to a vehicle such as this. I can tell you I have a bone stock Kouki in VERY similar condition with no modifications done to it whatsoever (I plan on keeping it that way) and i wouldnt trade it for anything in the world. I paid $8700 for mine with 97k miles and I consider that a STEAL. Everyone that is suggesting 10k is along the right track but I would even consider that too low.
However, all of this is irrelevant if you only view a car as a car. What is fantastic is that there are some select few who truely appreciate this vehicle for what it is and understand that the "value" assesed by some company (who supposedly understands the "value" of vehicles) means nothing. Car dealerships tend to assign this unknown worth as a "premium". I perfer to think of it as love. If you have your heart set on selling this car however, then treat it as much more than a car. Think of it as a pet you are trying to find a good home for. Search for the persons who appreciate and understand the essence that this vehicle captures. Those that will care for it like you would have. Find a true enthusiast who will treat her as well as you would have. Most importantly, remember that YOU assign the value because it is YOU who is selling it. Don't let anyone hardball you into what KBB thinks this car is worth.
I hate when something so precious is regarded as only a commodity instead of what it truely is: An artifact, a relic, and a treasure.

Hey prick, go shit on someone else's thread. I'm not some push-over 18 year old naive kid. No one gives a shit what you paid for your car, how clean it is, or what you have to say. Some people actually enjoy driving around non-halfassed cars.
Seriously, do you want me to take pictures of it in my garage with minimal lighting?
I've already said what was wrong in the ad, and I don't claim that it's "perfect", so stop assuming that I am. Condition is all relative. I have been looking for an S13 for the past 3-4 months that was not beat up and it is really difficult. S14's are hard to find with factory 5 speed and low miles.

I have well over $8k in parts alone and have reciepts in my inbox to prove it. Tuned and dynoed 358hp on 12psi on a Mustang dyno on April 25th, 2012, I have the dyno sheet to show it.
Mods include: Greddy front mount intercooler, greddy intake elbow, k&n filters on hard pipes for the intake, underdrive pulleys, TurboXS RFL BOV, BNR Stage 3 Sequential twin turbo, AzeKnight solenoid kit, ALL EMISSIONS REMOVED, 3" Downpipe, 3" Greddy midpipe, RARE St. May Dual Shotgun exhaust, Large street ported motor with Atkins super seals 2k miles on motor, JDM transmission with 57k miles, CJ Motorsports fuel rails, braided fuel lines, Injector Dynamics 725cc/1000cc injectors, Aeromotive FPR, Stance GR+ Pro coilovers, Cusco strut tower brace, B&M short throw shifter, Banzai Racing diff brace, Noltec motor mounts, Kenwood DNX9960 Double Din tv/nav, Kicker KS60 front and KS68 rear speakers, FlyRX7 triple dash gauge pod with an Autometer boost gauge and Innovate MTX-L Wideband, Brembo slotted rotors, Hawks HPS pads, Apexi PowerFC Pro computer, Greddy turbo timer, 99 spec taillights with a Sake bomb garage LED ring design improved with the help of David Hayes, Shine Auto Feed style carbon fiber skirts, and an Optima battery relocated to the rear of the car. I'm sure theres things i'm forgetting to list. A lot of the engine bay was powder coated black while i had it apart.
The car is amazing and in great shape for its age. Its got a couple of blemishes from being as old as it is, but its been garage kept most of its life. I'm the third owner, the first being the dealership. Interior looks great and I can email TONS of pictures of the entire car. Its currently located in El Paso, TX/Fort Bliss. Idk why i'm posting it, I absolutely love this car and it turns heads everywhere. Only thing I know wrong with it is the temperature control actuator for the AC isnt working, but i dont have a belt on the power steering and AC anyways because i prefer the car that way so it hasnt bothered me.

I like RX7's, but I have an LS3 in the garage that will end up making 500 WHP without forced induction.
Not interested in buying someone else project. Thanks though.
So i registered here just to post on this car. It looks amazing. Interested in a 1994 Mazda RX-7? It would require boot on your end though. I'm sure my car is rare enough lol. Email me or text if your interested in working something out. 7069808845/

buyer bought it for 9500, but the car had 29k miles. if you had 29k miles im sure it will sell for 10k but you dont, you have 72k miles so i think you can get between 7-8k for this. but it a Beautiful car. GLWS
just because that owner sold it for cheap doesnt mean OP should do the same. Honestly, $9500 for 29k miles is F***ing dirt cheap! OP's car is a real bargain too. 90% of the 240s have been beaten to shit and molested. This car, on the other hand, is worth every dime.:hitit:

Thank you.
People like you are the reason my Zenki will be "worth" in excess of 20k in a few years.
10k for a bone stock kouki is beyond laughable.
But hey, like I said. The idiots paying out for this are the ones increasing the value of them. So thank you.

Well, if anything, thanks for bumping my thread.
You're just getting more people to look at my thread.
Zenkis are a dime a dozen. Absolutely nothing special about them.
And as I've mentioned before, feel free to PM me if you have a problem with my price or thread. I would be happy to speak with you.

Bump. The way i see it - its a lot of money for a 240 but this thing has been preserved and is worth every cent. I have only seen 2-3 other 240's in that shape...

yeah, why don't you just keep it? I mean dude you are not going to get 12 grand for it especially when 12-14 grand with buy awesome late model STIs and Miatas with the same target mileage of 70-100 thousand. It is an Ohio car which is the rust belt plus bad drivers equals a tough place to sell and buy cars.
I like most on here would do 6-7 grand for it. Cash Money. any way good luck with it.

this car is very very clean ill give you that... I myself have a 1998 S14 Kouki factory 5spd no sun roof.
my body is FLAWLESS on my car as is interior. my car can net me around 8k since yours is soo clean id say your looking at 8k even for yours. if someone offers your 7500 or up run with it.
asking 12k your 3k short of owning a R32 or R33 skyline.

Have fun getting your Skyline impounded by the po-po. There's a reason why they don't cost a lot. No one wants to have to deal with fronting the paperwork in case you get busted.

I am looking to own an OBDI car in case I move out of this area.
What does it matter if the car is in Ohio? Did I say I drive it all winter? It stays in a garage 99% of the time. You do realize someone can buy a pristine car from out of state, and only take it out in good weather right?
I have my car on a 240SX enthusiast site, not a Miata enthusiast site. An STI and 240SX are very different cars, and I doubt a person would consider both cars when looking to buy.

i haven't post to this thread in the 5 months its been around but i have to speak up. im not the one to bother people when there selling stuff cause hey everyone and anyone is always trying to make a buck.
but i have to beef you with you little and trust me it has nothing to do with hating your car cause i have the same one only i have a 1jz in mine and i have with leather LE version.
so anyways... i just wanted to say that is is the most BS thread i seen on zilvia. dude lets be real here for a sec now along of these guys on here are young in heart and sometimes cant see with a big cloud of BS when its covering there eyes.
what i mean by this is there a few problems with your asking price.
1. its a 15year old car (no matter how u slice it or dice it how much pudding u rub on it its still 15 years old.
2. its 100% stock!!!! beside that go fast part u have the nizmo oil cap!:ddog:
3.listen man 11k + for this car is by far the biggest joke on ziliva. you think there a reason why u haven't sold this car yet in 5months?
you can get 6 to 7k for this all day and that's a fair price for both party's. but i really really hope the zilvia members on this forum isn't that stupid to buy this car for this price.
i can get a hella of better kouki with a 1jz swap for 10kobo right below this post.
oh and just so u know everyone on here im sure can back me part on this part.. why in the hell would someone want to pay you 11k or even 10k for your stock car cause anyone of u have a car accident u can kiss that 10 or 11k good bye cause being that the car is so old they will no fix it 90% of the time they just total it and all of u on here know this is true.
why would someone want to chance this with a 15year car.i wouldn't mind chancing it with a 5k car not a 10 or 11k + car. for the price ur asking i can get a car that's newer and my insurance will cover any damages and repair my car and i don't lose it.
im dealing with this right now i have over 20k in my car and they total lost my car with really no damage done to my car so i just got offered 4k with a car that has over 20k into it. all because a dumb ass girl ran a stop sign cause she was texting...
like i said i hate to bash u or your thread but its starting to be alot of BS with the prices that are popping up for these cars. there 15years old you have nothing on that car that's worth 11k+
you don't believe me
Kelley Blue Book (http://www.kbb.com/nissan/240sx/1998-nissan-240sx/se-coupe-2d/?vehicleid=6875&intent=trade-in-sell&mileage=72000&options=260710%7Ctrue%7C260819%7Ctrue&pricetype=private-party)
and u can reply with a thank you for your bump cause i can bump this for you till 2020 and u still wont get 11k for it. you should have grab that dudes rx7 cause atlest that's worth the money.
P.S
to the ziliva cheerleaders on this thread cheering this fool on with this stupid price why dont you buy it if its such a great deal and a great price.
and dont tell me that u dont have the money goto the bank and get a load for it and tell them what a great deal this guy is giving you on a 15year old car and see if they give u the loan.
the only way you should buy this car is if he tossed in a jar of Vaseline lmao!:ssex:

Why is everyone getting all tore up over cars that are at bare minimum at least 14 years old now..... I just bought a brand new 2012 mustang gt and it kicks these cars' ass in all categories. I used to be a die hard JDM tyte 240 fan boy, had my share of the cars, and I'll never go back to 14+ year old rust buckets.
$29K mustang 5.0 vs $1500 240sx ka Yeah
but with gas prices have fun at 17mpg in the city
u could buy a decently good looking car with $10k
and use the other $19k for another 2 rust buckets as u call em
that would probably stomp ur 5.o hehe
