View Full Version : Legal and free ways to transport a vehicle that does not run?
A friend of mine has an old s13 that we need to move about 2 miles down the road and I'm looking for suggestions on how to move it. There are no lights, battery, engine, etc... but it has full suspension and all 4 wheels/tires, so it will roll fine.
We could just tow it behind a truck using a rope and have someone in the s13 working the brakes but I think that'd be far from legal. Not trying to get in any trouble...just need to move a rolling shell.
TIA

just tow it with a rope..
i've done it twice...once with a 240z and once with a datsun 510...
passed by cops one time..looked like they were laughing...
2 miles...please..no worries...we were on the freeway at 50mph  ..lol..
i was in the cars both times...my friend was driving his toyota pickup truck..

2 miles? just either a) push it
or b) toe it w/ a rope
a cop would have to be a ReAL dick to get upset for that
do it late at night or a time suitable and safe w/ the least amount of traffic

just tow it, whatever you do, dont use a bulldozer trailer... bad experiences (huge trailer+low car= car stuck halfway onto trailer; solved with a lift/push from the afore mentioned bulldozer :))
a cop actually told my friend to tow the car like that, well he said "if thats the only way you can do it right now, get it out of the way"

its not legal and a 1 pt ticket if you get caught AND busted.
But i think if you do it late at night you wont get in trouble even if you get caught

if it is only 2 miles I say tow it with a chain...have towing vehicle with flashers on and a rear vehicle (behind the car being towed) with it's flashers on. Do it at night or during a non-buisy time of the day....goodluck!

If it's anywhere in the area of either you or Coastek, just tow it.
Just have a car behind it, and everyone have their flashers on.
You guys live in the middle of nowhere, don't sweat it.

one time we pushed my dads ford E350 full size extended van down the road at 12:30 PM with my brothers 4x4 blazer. we got a lot of funny looks but no cops or trouble. use your flashers and be safe... no horsing around and you should be fine.

another suggestion is we could also send a person ahead down hillwell rd. to scope it out real quick. hit me up when we're doing this. can't tonight, unless its really late. gotta date with Kara!...muahahaha!
