Hey guys.

So I recently upgraded to a garrett gt2871r .64 four months ago on my sr20 and it has been fine up until about 2 weeks ago when it started making this whining noise. I can kinda hear it while the car is idleing but you can really hear it when i shut the car off. I dont seem to be able to hear it while im driving or boosting, maybe because its just too faint to hear in the car or it just goes away. Anyways i was wondering if anyone has any input on this issue or has had this problem with this turbo. I cant see the seals or bearings going bad already as it has only about 4000 miles on it and im using the oil restrictor. heres the video

Some engine specs:

Blacktop sr
full exhaust
full ic and piping
power fc (no maf)
bc 264's
~16 psi

Any input would be greatly appriciated. Thanks!

sounds like an air leak squeal of some sort.

I have done a boost leak check before but not recently. It just doesn't sound like an air leak to me, sounds like the turbo. But maybe I should do that and see what happens

The wine is not normal.... Sounds like a bind or lubrication problem.... Change to redline and see if it changes the sound.... It shouldn't wine like that.

My 200sx (NA) does the same thing when shut off. I think its just air whistling.

sounds like my turbo right before it seized itself due to a oil restriction..and by restriction i mean literally an object restricting oil (which i found out too late about)
there was a piece of metal clogging my feed line :(

thanks for all your input guys!

So i guess my next step is going to be to take off my oil feed line and see what the deal is, then a boost leak check. Hopefully i havent done much if any damage so far. But what still isnt making sense is that it still spins very freely and doesnt smoke. Seems like it only does it at a certian rpm. Any more input would be appriciated. Thanks guys!

Smoke would be a seal problem and spinning means it hasn't seized yet, but make sure you check your lines and also the oil restricter. Its a very small pinhole sized hole....

Pull the line that leads to the oil pan and crank the engine- oil should come pouring out into your... bucket that you've placed below the line.

I would do the boost leak check first though, its less messy.
