Ok while driving I started hearing this humming like sound coming from the tranny and the gears wouldn't change like it suppose to. It took a bit longer than normal. so when i got to my wife's school to drop her off I checked my auto tranny oil and saw there was hardly any. So I wanted to go to O'reilly auto parts to get some tranny fluid but when I went to put it in reverse, IT WOULD NOT GET IN GEAR! Nor any other gears. It was like it was stuck in neutral. So I turned off the car and called a friend to find out if he knows wat it could be since he's a mechanic. He said it sounded like my torque converter could be out. So now I was stuck, broke, can't afford to tow it. But then i decided to turn the car back on after awhile and now it was able to get in gear and was able to make it home. Thank God. Wat can be the problem? I'm bout to try putting fluid in to see if that was it.

it wouldnt go in rev after you topped off fluid?

It'll rev bit it still slips off gear. My brother told me only way to find out is to put it in drive and press the brake and gas at the same time as in trying to do a burn out. And if it slips off gear than its the torque converter. One way to be 100% is to take out my tranny. It's gonna be a PITA!

So the tranny has the proper amount of fluid in it now? and you're still experiencing the same issues?

I really hope it is too! If not I'm gonna be forced to put in my manual tranny and do a ton more work and not only that, buy the few more parts I still need. I still need the hard line, driveshaft, cross member, flywheel bolts, and other misc parts

The problem is you don't have any fluids in your tranny. There's fluid in there to cool the tranny down and shift smoothly. Try changing the fluids and filter and go from there.

relax you will be fine. I did this too. when you refill the trans you must run the engine and with foot on brake shift prndl back and forth, wait 30 sec in each position and do this 4 or 5 times, it pulls the air out of the valve body and circulates the fluid where it needs to go. thus you get to go where you need to go

I've noticed it has tranny fluid in it. How much and how long does it take? Btw which side is the opening to refill it?

ill have to get back to you on the location of it but it can take a little time...just do what BRENTBOHN says! in my tahoe it took about 10 mins before i had full power transfer from engine to wheels.

there isnt any pics (at least for me) but this might help 240sx: changing transmission fluid / oil on s13 : 240sx Articles (http://forums.nicoclub.com/240sx-changing-transmission-fluid-oil-on-s13-t95826.html)

Would having the fluid overfilled in the tranny cause the torque converter to slip? Cuz when I drained the fluid out, it had a total of 4 quarts. Also my dad said if the filter is dirty, the tranny won't function right

yes and yes. check your FSM to see how many quarts you should have. my 240 came swapped so i havent had the pleasure of doing one myself yet, but 4qts to me sounds QUITE low- i doubt very seriously you were overfilled

Ok i just took out the tranny's oil pan and everything looks good(I think). How do see if the filter is bad? I can only see throught a small square whole. I'm letting it drain right now. Anything else I should check? btw all the damn bolts were loose on the pan!

Hahaha... That's the magnet in the oil pan.

Wat does the kit come with? Does it include the oil? I was thinkin of getting two 4 quart bottles of valvoline DEX/MERC ATF. Is that good?

Btw I just got a lot more oil drained out when I got the oil pan off

I would suggest get the nissan fluids. I used approximately 7 bottles. Keep us updated on how it goes after the flush...and how is loose bolts on the tranny considered a ricer??
