I am trying to save some cash for an SR swap and was hoping to offset some of the cost after the swap is complete by selling the KA that is in the car now. I am curious as to what a fair price for a clean, running KA24DE with 179,000 miles. I will also have either a manual or automatic transmission that can go with the engine. Any ideas?

In my area, running engines are $200 and 5-speed trans are $300.

I bought a running KADE with 89K back in 2009 for 250. It was a good motor--good, but dirty. 179K is a lot. Give it a good wash before you throw it up for sale.

They're going for around $150 - $300, depending on sell and condition around here. The transmission is usually in about the same range.

Adding a turbo on a 180K KA is always an awwwwwwesome idea!!!
As far as KA pricing...all depends on you. How fast do you want to get it out of garage and taking up space?

I only want to swap it for an engine that was built by the manufacturer for forced induction. For the time being, I have decided to put all performance modifications on hold to work on cosmetics. This car needs a lot less cosmetically than my last two S13's so I am going to start there.

about $200 for engine only; no tranny..
It completely depends on your area. Just jump up on CL or a local forum and see how much they are going for.
and dont waste your money on a SR

Thanks for the post, was just mapping out prices on KA for my SR.
I debated for the longest going KA-T, but Ive been somewhat convinced with all the info for the motor being turboed from the factory and driving in a couple of my buddies SR20s. Seems for about $2,200 I can drop in a S14 Notch Top SR20 that will be turboed and ready to build , Im so strung between the two, gahh!

i chose Ka-t becuase I have that pride that i built it, also if you rebuild the motor with all new shit, you will have a fresh motor that u know what went into it. an SR you dont know what surprises are lurking within.

In HI, 200 for the engine. About 400-500 for engine and trans. I lucked out, was picking up parts and they were just throwing it away, so I backed my truck up and took it. FREE, ftw.
