I fear the customizing bug has bitten me and I was looking at the plain factory taillights and wondering if anyone has ever modified them (decides dying the yellow parts red)

and how they look?! and if I was ever to being myself to spend money on that kooki taillight kit you see, with the round lights and whatnot, how hard is this to install?

the file i attached was just the result of me goofing around....looks stealthish

Looks wierd, not bad, just wierd:hs: I'd still go for the type X look over that, but that looks just a decent.

Twitchy, it looks terrible. But, if you were to get the clear conversion done on your black car, that would look SICK! Clearcorners.com can do it for you, and would look like this:

HOTNESS!

Your rear end looks like an S14 now... :D

what about painting in that center piece?

it looks better than stock s13h/b lights. I don't like the big amber part of them. All red is better IMO, but it would look a LOT better if you blacked out the center panel (minus rev. lights). What did you do to color them?

How about this: Just leave them the way they are!

twitchy
01-10-2004, 03:16 PM
yeah probably

i was thinking of putting some window tinting on the insides to make them look darker maybe....and brighter bulbs, those halogen 1156 or 1157 bulbs that are 250% brighter than stock...That would be neet

be considerate of others . . . do you like driving behind somebody at night when you're tired and grumpy and their taillights are super-duper bright? no! so don't do it to other people!

get some chuki turn signals, jdm side fender lights, rear fender markers and keep your stock tail lights!

#1 wipe your license plate number when posting online ;)

#2 doesn't look bad... looks kind of almost maybe stock if someone didn't know 240s.

#3 it might look better if you cleaned up your car and do those tricks to bring the paint back to life. that clear corners pic looks nice but that car is super clean and shiny with exhaust, rims, skirts etc. its hard to compare objectively.

don't paint the center, that looks ugly! i do like the clear corners red/white lights, and i think it probably also look good if the amber part was red, too. of course, im partial to the kouki lights. its super easy to install (me and my dad did it pretty easily), and i know nothing about cars.

Uhh, correct me if I'm wrong here, but if you did that, wouldn't you be eliminating your rear turn signals?

How do you paint the center piece? Do you simply paint over it or does it have to be disassembled from the hatch?

I personally like the look when the yellow is painted over!
Looks stockish, and costs 5 bucks.

heres wat ill try to do when i have time...make the orange turn signals red and do some rewiring so the now red turn signals light up with the nitelight so the taillights light up more..so the top and bottom lights light up....also probaby use a double filament bulb so the turn signals are still functional..

mistaanime

Yeah, I wired the outside bulbs to blink, and the inside ones to be the brake lights.... looks really nice at night with only those two lights on. Looks nice when the signals are on too.

Yeah, I have had a couple people say it made the back of my car look like a probe... thats cool, it doesn't to me!

One thing I love about S13 Hatches is the extent to which you can customize the tailights... alot of options out there.

C-West offers tinted rear taillights. They look similar to the Kouki taillights and are less than half the price. I've seen them listed at about $170. And I believe you can also buy the center piece for around $90. You should be able to find these at any C-West dealer. www.motorex.net has them. And you can go to http://www.c-west.co.jp/aero/180sx/ for pics. If you like the look it might be worth checking out.

It is very easy to take the center of the tailights out, and it would make it alot easier to paint as you would not have to mask the car, only the reverse lights.
Go in your trunk with a 10mm and unblolt the 6 bolts found under the plastic trim. Unclip the reverse lights and then go paint it!
Scuff the plastic up a bit to help the paint adhere.
Show us pictures if you do it!

you are correct in thinking that

you're soo right.. and as for the all red, dats been done, just cover and spray, its not dat big of deal, and just for you anti honda guys, this has been done for years on civics and crx's soo next time you guys say "honduh this or rice dat", remember wat you're making such a big deal about over just sprayin your taillights

i tried to do the clear corners thing, to take the taillights apart, now dat was tough, all i ended up doin was crackin my taillights, *its much harder than it seems* well, i think if i cooked it it would be ok. now dats something to try to figure out like old_s13 somehow did..

its so easy man. you basically just take your current taillights out, and the new ones fit right in. the wiring modification is a joke. all you do is cut and splice like 3 wires. shouldnt be a problem as long as youre not color blind.
honestly, the hardest part is getting your current lights out.
let me know if you need any more help.
