I've been looking for a reliable place to buy a front clip. I've seen a few stories about some shady places, but would like to hear more stories good or bad about where you got your sr20 from. If you could go into detail on timeframe, price, customer service, quality of clip (althought in used car parts i know there isn't a standard, there's bad eggs out there) also quality of packaging, cut or uncut harness. Anyway, all information would be appreciated.. Thanks.
*By the way. I've tried searching here, 240sxforums, and FA to no avail. All I seem to find are lists about where you CAN order motors from but nothing about the service people received from each place.*

i bought my redtop from heavy throttle. i highly recommend them, as most people who deal with them do. although they're quite expensive, their service is great. i haven't started up my motor yet, but it looks good. they're nice people. shipped it to my house faster than i expected as well.

ie. japan direct motorsports...i have dealt with the guys for over 6 years now and have never had a problem with engines/trannies. They have great cust. service and stand behind all their products. The buyers physically go to japan and drive the cars before they cut em and ship em. They ship anywhere..but since they are in my hometown i am not sure what the rates are.
They have two clips in stock right now...both silvias (one with Aero package) with about 50k kilometers...and their clips come with the hood/lights/fenders and sometimes aftermarket goodies. They will be traveling to Japan at the end of this month for the purchasing of more stuff.
They maybe a little pricer than others...but its worth it.
oh talk, to Jeremy, Al, or Johnie and tell them Jerry referred you and they will prolly give a little off the price...or charge you more!!!!! jk

I got mine at Phase 2 Motortrend, and everything was great. I have ordered lots of stuff from P2M, HT, and Enjuku and all of them had great support and great products...

Hey again not to get off the topic but I heard when doing a sr swap you might have to replace the gaskets in case of seizing up and what not. Is this a true statement? thanks chris

if it was me i would replace all gaskets (save head) prior to installing the motor...saves you time and energy in the long run as it's super easy to do when the motor is on a stand and not in the car...

I live in Canada and I got my motorset form Osakamotors, they have wrecking yards in Japan. I paid $2300 CDN and it came with everything except the radiator shroud.

The only people who don't get screwed by Osaka are the people that can actually go visit the place in person. Too many horror stories to trust that place.

I didn't go there in person, I had my motorset shipped and I got everything. Maybe it is because I live in Canada? But everything i recieved was in good condition. What kind of "horror stories" have you heard?

Well, After talking to many places via phone and email... I have placed an order with www.usedengine.com Shipping details should be finalized tomorrow and within 2 weeks I should have the clip. I'll let you guys know how it all goes. BIG THANKS to is300drifter, I had never heard of that place but compared to all the other places selling clips they seem outstanding. Anyway, I'll keep you guys updated.
*small picture i know, but pic of the clip I shall be receiving.

I know all the worries about buying a motorset/clip from canada. Well i bought my SR from JDMSource. Excellent customer service, we even talked for over an hour about money issues and mechanical issues of motors. I got the motor in less than 5 days. www.jdmsource.ca
I dont know about the bad things from canadian companies but this is one canadian company you can trust.

and sometimes aftermarket goodies
Thats the last thing you want to find on the clip / engine you are buying. That means the person was doing the same types of things you're going to do to that engine.

Well hopefully these arent signs it's been abused too badly, but with such low mileage I think it'll be alright. What I'm most interested to see is when we unbolt the transmission... Hopefully there's still a good clutch on there. Sounds like you're pretty close to someone who works there? And oh yeah, I'm suppose to be getting the body panels and everything. Should have shipped out today via ABF Freight. The quote says 3 days. I'll keep everyone updated.
**By the way, i was wondering about the downpipe? is there one? stock? aftermarket?
