It just seems like you need arms of a steel to do a full day of drifting w/o PS.

Personal preference. If you have the strength and really do a good job at it, you will probably better off than PS users. Like dori said more feel.

I've had friends do it with no PS, said it fealt better but wouldn't be able to do it all day.

i like pwr steering on the s13 especially if it is a street car and your not planning on raping the sht out of the interior or caging it or making it purpose oriented.

I do like the feeling of no power steering but honestly if its your only car and your weekend d day car keep it.

if you have two s13s, experiement and see what you like.

fuc it take the belt off and experiement that way! haha

although when you drain the fluid completely it does get a little easier to turn the steering wheel.

also the bigger the front tires / rims are width and diameter the harder it will be to run without pwr steering.

How would you go about draining out all the lines? or does it all flush out itself with lines disconnected..

Right now I dont have my PS belt on, and its pretty difficult. (17x8s)

17 x 8 in the front is pretty big. for this size i would prolly reccomend keeping pwr steering.

draining the lines happens when you detach the line from the pump and the resiovor and just drain out the rack into a pan.

then drive the car around and turn several times to squeeze out the rest of the goodness.

hey dont listen to rpsports....hes a crazy ol man with his old skool ideas. dont drive around and make several turns and get oil on the ground. jus jack the front end up and take off the power steering line and turn the wheels back and forth til the oil stops commin out. but be sure to have an oil pan under the lines also.

way cleaner, better and more efficient....worked for me when i did it.

I say keep PS, since running without it has v. few benefits (if any).

Try it first by either taking off the belt or draining the fluid, see if you like it... I'm not sure if it's just my car (lack of alignment after an accident?) but driving w/o PS is HORRIBLE for me, and I'm only running 15*7 wheels and 205/55 tires. The road feel actually seems worse in my case, but that may be due to other factors like possibly bent arms and/or misalignment.

FWIW, big shots like imamura still use PS in their D1 machines.
If you insist on going all out no PS no A/C no radio etc etc, you might consider modifying the steering rack (how, I don't know!) -- manual steering rack/pinion/systems are much smoother/responsive than a PS system that's just been disconnected. :p
