ok so i have figured out that the idiot previous owner cut the start signal switch and just taped it up in this awful rat nest of wires near the ecu. That explains the shitty cold starts. I wired to the starter power coming off the ignition switch because i thought that was the correct one. but it didnt seem to help at all. should i wire it to a constant 12v source? I was under the impression the ecu only needed it white the car was cranking up.
and to clarify it is wired to pin 34 which is orange.
any help would be much appreciated..
thanks!

What ECU? #62?
There is an orange wire on the ECU that needs a signal during cranking. It is labeled "start signal" or similar in the ECU diagram. Depending on the chassis, it most likely mates to another solid orange wire coming off the dash wiring, or a spot in the F3 plug for "start signal" or similar.

yeh its a code 62. i just pulled my engine to build it but id still like to know the answer. for some reason even with my pin 34 wired to the black/white wire coming off the ignition it didnt want to start. that is the starter signal wire if i remember correctly. Should it have a constant 2 volt from power 1 on?

has anyone ever had this problem? i cant find my orange wire. the previous owner deffinitly effed up the dash harness pretty good. im surprised the cluster works. I just want to find a new source of power for the pin on the ecu.

I had the orange wire coming off the dash harness on my hatch, but it had no power. Wired the orange wire up to a switch for cold starts and it started up perfectly after that

I have the exact same problem right now with my car. I was trying to fix an cold start problem and i found that the ST SIGNAL wasnt connect into the dash harness, after connecting the orange wire, the car wont start!! it cranks but wont start, if i remove the orange wire from the plug it goes back to the hard start problem
any ideas im looking at the wiring diagram but can figure out a solution
