I just bought my headlights and was wondering how do I prevent from them getting yellow foggy. I've seen cars with some headlights where one is clear and the other one is all foggy and yellow.
Do you guys have any suggestions?

there are companies out there that make a thin sheet that you just put over your headlights and act as a protective layer against turning yellow...etc. but sorry, forgot the company name. i saw it in an automotive products catalog. good luck.

Guarantee will be just send me back the product and I'll mail you your money which will be $10. $3.95 was for shipping, but I already know you won't because it does work! If you do send it back, it better not be 3/4 empty or something like that or you're probably scamming me! Nah, just kidding but we took a "supposed to be red car", which was already pinkish from oxidation and made it red again.
I'll explain in detail about paint and oxidation if you guys want to hear it. I'm a former professional detailer. I could tell you how wax could harm your paint, what not to use on your dash............ The list goes on and on.

You should write a FAQ about detailing our cars for this website. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
Trust me, I'll read it!
yea i would read it too, print it twice, and post one in my garage and one to leave in the car

Or, if you're independently wealthy, peruse the "group buys" section for the european headlight offer. Glass won't yellow on you like plastic does. . . unless it's out a #### of a long time. . . then it tends to turn purple though. . . bye

I'll probably post detailing on my website that I have yet to start. Thanks for giving me the idea though!

You have two options, you could get European headlamps which are glass. Or buy a micrmesh refinishing kit, which is an aerospace quality polymer refinishing kit. It will take the scratches out of any clear plastic, even compact disks. They are easy to use, ie. you don't need a buffing wheel or special compounds. If anyone wants one let me know.

whoa - he doesn't need glass ones or polish or any of that stuff. The 97-98 s14 came with glass lenses - these don't get yellow. Only plastic lenses do from pitting and debris. For THAT, a polisher and a buffer will take it right off.
BTW: that oxidizer may be great for paint, but not for plastic. Buy a plastic polisher from your local autoparts store.
I think the Write up on Detailing would be a awesome.. Let us know the link when you get it up!

I have a 1998 240SX. I think my lights are kind of yellow. 0_o They don't look white, at least not on mine.

You have glass headlights. . yellow and faded aren't two things that are likely to happen. .
BUT. . u should be worried about them getting sandblasted by road debris n stuff. . my old fogs (got OEM replacements for 30 bucks hehe. . VERY VERY nice now lol) had this problem. . my headlights do, but not bad at all. . in fact. . I wax my headlights, and it makes them look brand new...

No - just get some polisher and have at them. There is nothing you can do to prevent the yellowing (I've heard you can slow it down by adding clear coat - but since I don't do paint work, but can buff...). Do a search here or at FA and you will find instructions on how to do this.

I'd like to hear more about the Detailing. As the owner of a black 1997 s-14, the car that looks like shizat when its dirty, but gorgeus when its clean I'd love to hear some insder detailing secrets.

Punk! That's why you never buy black!! They look like total ass! I have a 1998 in Silver Moss, I didn't wash it for two months and it still looked fine. Just didn't shine, but it didn't look extremely dirty, but on the otherhand, the difference when you wash it is not as appreciable.
The 1997-1998 -DO- have glass headlights don't they?

I thought there was some DOT crap that didnt allow glass headlights? so are the 97-98s glass or not? Somebody get a hammer and smash one of their headlights cuz i wanna know damnit! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

BadMoJo,
There can't be any DOT stuff against that. There are glass headlights all over the place. Think of an S13. It has glass headlights. As well as any vechile with sealed-beam headlights. The lights on my car feel really cold, like glass, and they don't have all the hairline sratches and speckles like most plastic lights so. I could be wrong because I dunno much about anything, but that's my theory.
And I'm sticking to it!

Evotek, i would like to hear what your views on detailing are because i have been one for the past 5 years and would like to compare techniques with you. Evo is right though about the headlight, you can get Meguire's plastic cleaner and polish (blue and white bottle) at local parts store. Or you can use some medium cut compound and use a high speed buffer with either. Takes 5 minutes and comes out great. I have personally done this myself so i know it works.
