BUMP!
Hey I have a question for these type of vehicles that can't be registered here in CA.
And by no means I'm I trying to bash on your sell, but why do people buy these vehicles if they can't even be registered here in CA, which means you can't drive it on the streets...
Is mainly bragging rights to say that you have a Skyline? or what else can you do with them? Like why would someone buy this? thank you for the answer in advance. just curious to know.
GLWS btw.

Some people in this forum can afford to buy this car and to drive it on track only. or take it to other state and get it titled and sell for more?
ryandh
01-22-2012, 05:32 AM
Like why would someone buy this?
Because there are still people out there who really want this car and know how hard it is to actually find one with a bond release...that is also a Vspec...with less than 100k Km... and is also midnight purple.... and is completely stock and unmolested...in the United states... That is all.

There is no bond release or any paperwork for that car, AND also it is not a GTR, or GTR Vspec for that matter. Just giving you guys an idea... Keep the offers coming!

Okay so everytime I see a state titled skyline for sale , there's always one person that says "Bond release this, bond release that, your car's not legal blah blah blah", but here you have a skyline that HAS a bond release and it's NOT legal? or is it just not legal in CA? anyway bump for a completely stock R33 and GLWS
And to the people saying "buy it and hold on to it til it's legal", sorry it doesn't work that way...

Here is how this works... In order to register a Skyline in CA, you need to jump through a lot of hoops and make a lot of people happy.
Yes this has a bond release, BUT it was never meant to be a car for CA. So to answer your question, this car is 100% illegal for CA road use. What I mean by that is that it does not have a CARB label (california Air Resources Board) and will not by any means be able to be registered in CA. In every other state, this is not a requirement. Also, unlike every other state, Cali does not and will not recognize 11 digit vin's.
You see all these guys in other states driving R32's and R33's that are completely illegal, and it is SO easy to get them titled and registered out of CA. What 100% of those non motorex cars don't have is a Bond release OR EPA paperwork to show that the car is here LEGALLY in the US... however, this is not a motorex car, which is why it sits in such a grey area for CA.
Short answer: Not CA legal, and never will be.

Thanks man. Most people feel this is a good price. My original asking price was to get a feel for what people are willing to pay, and what the market price for a Skyline is now days.

Do you guys think R32/33s will ever be legal in CA? If so, when do you guys anticipate this happening?

To answer you question, 1989 R32's will be in 2014 being that they will be 25 years old. DOT is 21 years, but the EPA is 25 years to be exempt from emissions regulations. 1991 in 2015, '92 in 2016 so on and so forth. If you want to wait to own an R33, wait it out until 2020...if you'll actually still be interested in the car at that time.

Find a friend in AZ, register it there..

People do it with 240's all the time to gain modification immunity, or as close as you can get to immunity

Thats pretty cool.
I'll put it this way,if anyone wants to buy this car and they live in CA, that's perfectly fine. But just know that it is impossible to register here. if the potential buyer wants to do it another way, thats fine. Obviously anyone who is seriously considering this car knows exactly what they are getting into, even with the motorex cars, its all the same.

$35k for an R33 GTR V-Spec is not bad, even considering how much they cost in Japan. Then throw in the fact that is legal in the states...definitely worth it. Just not in CA...

this is an incredible deal for this car. with the color and being vspec.
I remember seeing one of these in my local Nissan dealers back in the UK, think it was 1999-2000.
It was the same colour, unsure if it was a V-spec but definately a GTR, price back then was 50,000 GBP! It was one of the few UK R33's.
Anyway, free bump for an awesome car.

These still won't be legal in CA, since they won't be modified for CA emissions.
Speaking of which, have you tried to rent lab-time and get it CARB-tested? It's already EPA 49 state legal, so some changes may have been made. JK would have a list of further mods, if any, you'd need.
As far as VINs, my BAR-legal Skyline was registered here under its JDM VIN.
