Search function only yielded results about S14 MSD wiring so here goes...

I installed my old MSD 6A unit I had lying around just to see if there's any difference from the Jacobs ICE pak I normally run...

I found out the MSD blaster coil was dead so I had to use the Jacobs Torquer Coil instead. It shouldnt be a problem though

The only thing that is not properly hooked up is the MSD going to chassis ground instead of straight to the (-) on the battery. just because the wire isn't long enough. it's mounted to a spot with zero resistance to battery ground.

I've got the white MSD wire (points/amplifier output pickup) connected to the white wire of the stock coil harness. The MSD red wire (+12v when "on") is hooked up to the green/blackstripe wire on the factory coil. The black (-) wire in the center is unused. the smaller harness to the side of the coil is left connected (has a single tab, don't know what it is).

the problem is that the car acts like it's running super advanced ignition timing (sluggish from idle to 3000rpm, and bogs above 3000). Am i using the right wire for the amplifier pickup? Where is the proper harness/wire to tap into? I've positioned the dist cap all over the place from max advance to max retard, but nothing works. The ICE pak works differently because instead of an amplifier pickup, the system uses the coil signal to fire off the Jacobs coil.

thanks in advance,

so apparently I was using the wrong coil harness:hammer:

up until an hour ago, I had only noticed the large 3-wire and 1-wire harnesses.

tucked under the coil itself is a 3rd harness (2-wire) and THAT is the proper +12v and trigger output. The output from the 3-wire is either slightly delayed or slightly early in comparison.

but for future reference, s13 MSD setups do NOT need the tach adapter that kept getting mentioned in all the other MSD setup threads
