Hey guys.

What's up.

I always liked 240sx, about 2-3 years ago I really wanted an S14, and then I sorta got into Supras more for a long while.

But I'm gonna buy my car in May and being more realistic with my current financial situation, and the cost of the Supra I knew I had to find something else. So I was planning on getting an S13 for 3k or so and just fucking around with that for a while.

But I was reading Supraforums and NiteKids' car really inspired me. I remember seeing S14s for 25k or so a few years earlier so I sorta forgot about them. But recently checking the autotrader I was able to find a few for under 10k.

Now I'll probably be able to afford it, and you know it seems like the perfect car. It's RWD and 5 speed (which is a MUST). It looks sexy and handles well. It's not powerful, which is good cause it will be my first car. I want to drive it around for a while and then pick up an SR20DET (just like everyone...lol..) so then I think I'll learn a lot about the car if I swap it with a friend.

So yeah, that's my story. :)

I was hoping to find a FAQ or something around here but was out of luck, so I've got a newbie question. I saw a lot, like most of the S14s that are for sale had 180k miles exactly. So I'm wondering if there's any issues with the car around this time. How reliable is it? I'm not TOO worried about milage since I'll hopefully swap for an SR eventually but I still need it to run for about a year or so. So yeah, please post common problems or send me a link and I'd love to read.

Thanks a lot.

PS. Guys and girls can you have a quick look at my site please?

Thanks again.

Have a nice day everyone.

wow. we have a faq right beside search right beside calendar right beside members and so on. 240SX.org also has a faq that tells you general numbers and stats on the 240 you have (or are getting).

180k is a lot of miles and maybe the car is just generally falling apart by this time, depends on the car. motor mounts/ tranny mounts/ bushings things of this nature of course. then the timing chain could be fuct which depending on the mechanic is around $1000 if you pay to get it done. they could have heard the ticking taken it to a mechanic , got a quote, and say "hell i don't want to put more money in this thing." and then put it up for sale.

overall the 240 is a pretty well made car. so......get one or two.

Cool thanks, yeah sorry what I meant was that I looked in the FAQ section but culdn't find a thing with 'common problems' and stuff.

Oh yeah and I'm in Canada so it's 180k KM and not miles.

Welcome to the forums, I'm new here too. I'm just like you, love supras too, still do, but now I've fallen in love with 240's, so I'm also looking for one myself.

I've asked several people and friends to know alot about these cars. They've all said similar things. Just do what you would to check for when buying any car. Check to make sure there's no rust, any paperwork or receipt is great, take a look at the car and test drive if possible.

I haven't heard of any "common" problem so to speak that pop up particularly for these cars. I've asked around but haven't heard anything other than the normal stuff that comes with wear and tear. Sorry if i'm not much help.
