View Full Version : S14 Horn Wiring - Aftermarket Steering Wheel

Followed the directions here: Welcome to importnut.net! (http://importnut.net/intropage.htm)

First time I connected wires to button the horn came on and stayed on. Switched wires to see if it would make any difference and it came close. The horn has a mind of it's own. Any movement of the black wire (from the momo hub) makes the horn go off. Any thoughts?

Process:
Found green/white (horn) wire connected to connector to spiral piece on original steering wheel. From connection to spiral the wire is brown. Connected wire from brown wire to brass. Brass mounted to make contact to back of hub. Drilled hole in inner part of hub and ran wire from hub to button. Connected black momo hub wire to button.

When you hit the horn all that is happening is the oem wire is being grounded.

What does that mean I did incorrectly or didn't do? I've tried mounting the wires a couple different ways and horn comes on as soon as I touch the negative back to battery. I appreciate any help.

I'm having to same problem too, mine is weird though i have an after market wheel, quick release and pretty much the same hub... installed everything wired the horn, horn worked thought everything was cherry then popped of my wheel and called it a night slapped the wheel back on the next morning and BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! scared the hell outta me lol, i even took the wheel back off and it was still going off! I had to disconnect the stupid battery! so im stumped too :(

Follow your wiring from the brown wire. Since you made a new tab that touches the hub plate, I'd start there. It might be touching outside the plate area or the plate is shitty and grounding out. Take a picture of behind the hub...I'm curious to see what the back of the hub looks like, take a shot of both sides (clip side and hub side)

Tried tapping wire directly to green/white wire and horn stays on. I've checked the brass contact to the hub and it just touches the brass and a little bit of the rubber, but not any of the hub metal. I'm stumped.

Found the culprit. Wire was pinched, exposed and grounding out against the hub. Hopefully, if anyone else is searching for this issue, this thread will help them.
