Just got it yesterday. It's pretty nice...'95 base model for $3100
It's white
106,000 miles
salvage title
chipped paint on front bumper
1 dent
Plexiglass (sp?) replacement rear windows from theft
Worth it?
There is also an idle problem with it that I would like you guys to help me with. I've been searching around on all the 240 forums I know and none have been specific enough to help me!
Problem:
When I turn the wheel a lot, the idle fluctuates from ~800 RPM to ~300 RPM. It'll just go back and forth a lot. Also, when I am at a stop light, it'll fluctuate too (more rare than the wheel turning though). What do you think the problem is and how would I go about fixing it? The idle is really pissing me off...heh. Please help me out! :wtc:

try cleaning out the Idle intake air valve... its a common problem that is easily fixed by spraying carb cleaner down the hose that connects to it. Search http://www.240sx.org/ FAQ and you'll find answers to most of the questions you have about your car. Good Luck!

yup thats a classic 240sx problem.

Yeah, that's what I read (carb cleaner). I was reluctant to try that because most of the people who came up with that solution was writing about the S13. I didn't want to try on my S14 and screw it up. I'm not as car-savvy as you guys yet  ...SOON THOUGH! :coolugh:
I'll try it tomorrow. Thanks for the replies

oh yeah, also check the hoses going to the intake and the ones going into the vapor canister. If some of them are broken or missing it messes up idle. I had this problem on my old s14 with 135k miles. I got new hoses for the vapor canister and it fixed the problem.

Where can I get these hoses? Can I get them at Kragen? Also, some people were saying to spray something (don't know what, do you?) on to the hoses and see if it bubbles. If there is, that means I have a leak. True?

Check those as in, spray it with carb cleaner like mike13 said?
Thanks anubis!

I'm dealing with the same stuff right now as well...very common problem. Not so bad where I want to do anything about it, but if you find what it is then report back cuz I need to do the same.
PS- So are you gonna rock a "Final Version" sticker as well?;)

I would not buy that car for $3100. You can get a clean titled S14 for alittle more or same price if your lucky.

I would not buy the car either. I got my 96 base 240 w/ 69,000 miles for $5500.
When i turn the wheel on my car it does the same thing. Somethimes I'll just be sitting in a drive thru and the engine will start reving up and dropping.

I also have that same exact problem. I will just be sitting talking with my friend in his car and it will start revving up and dropping down again, far enough where i think it will die.
I tried checking all of the hoses and i sprayed the stuff like you guys said up there ^. But, it was no luck, it still does that same exact thing.

might have gotten a decent deal depending on what 'salvage' means... i hope you checked it out thoroughly before buying it! anyway i have the same idleing issue on my car; one of my friends also had the issue on a '96. it only happened to us when we move the wheel while idleing. we figured it was tied into the powersteering system b/c it went away when he removed it. i guess turning the wheel is robbing power from the car and it can't adjust fast enough to compensate during idle, resulting in weird idle.
could be wrong, but i don't think s14's have a AIV ... it just leans out during idle instead. thats a s13 fix.

whoa my 1995 SE does the same damn thing... been trying to figure it out for the lonest time. Checked all the hoses for leaks and cleaned the AAIV many different times. Nothing worked...
The turning the wheel thing I let go becuse I figured it's a powersteering thing but the dropping of the revs at idle and when I stop, that pissed me off....I think it might be due to the fact that my tps is a lil screwy...and the engine is running rich...I don't know
if anyone got answers that would be awesome....:bash:

you should never turn the wheel while the car is still. common sense? unless you're in NY city parallel parked and have 3" of clearence, but then again you should never take an s14 to ny city
:D

#1 if you live and drive in the real world then there are times you have to turn the wheel while the car is still. on that note, this is the only car i've ever had that has a idle fluctuation b/c of it. 1993 camry, 1992 maxima... these old cars had no problems in this area. why should the 240 be exempt?
#2 there's nothing so special about a s14 that you shouldn't drive it into nyc. i know we all love our cars and shit, but it's a 155hp 10 year old nissan; it's not a ferrari. i wouldn't even rate it on the same level as an itR. *shrug*
