I'm building an S13 bottom end, and during this build I came across a built S14 head my friend has. I've searched and searched and no one seems to give a definite answer. I know it can be done but everyone plugs that extra oil hole, and doesn't use vtc. Is there possibly a way to keep vtc with the head swap?

VTC isnt VTECH, VVL is... VTC controls cam timing only and doesn't change lift. It allows the S14 motors to advance/retard 20degrees of timing on the intake cam only.

VVL was found on Japanese FWD Nissan vehicles. This system is comparable to Honda's VTECH. It allows changes in cam timing/lift/duration. There is a conversion to install this system on a RWD SR and they make gobs of power. So, yes VTECH in an S-chassis...

To answer the OPs question, you'll have to tap the block to supply the S14 head oil for the VTC. If you flip the head over you'll see the oil galley towards the front of the head that goes to the VTC solenoid, and from there to the VTC cam gear. You can also supply that port from and external source which would involve drilling and tapping the side of the head.

Ok say I drill, tap, and plug the oil galley as in the link above. Then where would I route the oil the the vtc solenoid?
