Sort of at a crossroads here, clutch-wise.

My SR is putting 370hp/315tq down to the wheels, and my clutch needs to be replaced. I road race and drift my car. I just got through wearing out an RPS max clutch, and I've got a hyper single, I ran for a couple seasons, on the side but the disc is done on that as well.

I should be switching to a twin plate, because they hypersingle is rated at 315tq to the wheels, so I'm right there at the limit. But, I don't really see myself spending the money on a twin plate right now. If I can replace the disc for $260 and have the flywheel resurfaced, and it lasts me one season, then it's worth it as opposed to dropping ~$1500 on a twin.

So, now that I'm ready to pull the trigger on buying a disc, I'm faced with the questions of what else I need to do to bring this clutch up to snuff.

Here are pictures of my clutch:

Cost of a new disc is $260. Cost of a new cover is $390. I'm not sure what all the cover includes. I think it is just the purple cover and the fingers? A bolt kit is $20.

I'm curious if the pressure plate is resurfaceable, and also I'm pretty sure there's a way to resurface this flywheel.

Does anyone have experience 'rebuilding' their hypersingle? How do I know if I need a new cover?

Any any advice or any thoughts are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks

The pressure plate is resurfaceable.

I contacted EXEDY about it and I cannot seem to find my email that states their limit on how much to take off the surface.

I would buy a Spec Stage3+ and a ACT flywheel or some combo like that. Holds more power than the hypersingle.

I've been through 2 hypersingles on less than 300whp. I'm ready for something new lol

EDIT....Idk why the hell I said HKS.

You'd have to contact Exedy about the PP being resurfaceable. You definitely need the flywheel cleaned up though. The cover would be your PP and it should include everything that is attached to the original PP. Honestly though, if youre going to spend $600+ on new parts, look into the Spec Mini disc. It's a few hundred more, but it is a twin disk clutch that would be good for your application and give you quite a bit of head room.

well if the cover comes with the pressure plate, then it looks like i can get the whole thing minus the flywheel for $670... that sounds cheap considering they're like $1200 new? unless it's a $530 flywheel? (if you get what i'm saying)

as far as going to a spec stage 3 etc. (i've ran a spec stage 3, an ACT, the hypersingle, and the rps max) i really want a clutch with the aluminum cover. it just revs so damn fast, going from the hypersingle to the rps w/ lightened flywheel was such a difference, i hated it.

i can't believe how little power the stupid hypersingle holds. and i agree, if i'm going to spend $600 on this clutch, i'd rather just buy a twin disc. i guess my goal is to resurface what i can, and just buy the disc, and hope that it will hold my power for the season. there are a lot of people around me with similar power that don't seem to have problems using hypersingles. not sure how/why, but i'm willing to give it another try if i can.

Just have to get the right multidisk clutch... A buddy of mine has an RPS carbon multi in his Supra and it's like butta...

Igot an Exedy Hyper-twin clutch, and I have no problems with it, my car is used as a DD for the moment, not too stiff, a good feeling......I'll soon have to change discs, and i'll buy them as long as the clutch (PP and flywheel) won't have any problems.

Personally, I fucking love my twin plates...handles anything you can throw at it and feels like stock. Ive been running Os Giken TS2BD on my old SR, just changed the flywheel so I can run it on my RB25.

Don't know if this had been considered but JWT makes a flywheel to run a 350z clutch. Might be something to look into.
