In my many many months of shopping for my S14 I came across countless automatics, before FINALLY finding a manual SE in perfect shape that wasn't red/green/black.
How many of you are out there cruisn' with a auto? I'm interested to know if there are (were) just way more autos made or if most people with 5-speeds just aren't giving them up?
What's the deal?

I think the people with 5spd's arent given them up. I consider myself somewhat lucky to have found one that was in nice enough condition.
That was after S13Grl brutally sold her's to someone else before I could get the money togther!

Eh...I was stuck with an auto...my parents forced me to get an auto. Now they don't give a crap...But I like the 240 so much, I'm gonna convert to manual tranny when I get a SR engine. I drove a 5speed s14 compared to mine, ah...My auto has so much lag and barely much pickup...

I agree, ppl who have 5spd dont want to give it up, 5spds are so rare, i would choose 5spd cuz u can controll the power of the car, and their lots of fun :-D

I have an auto as well this is the only 97-98 240 i have seen here until like about 1-2 months later. Then i saw alot of older 240's.I have only seen 1-2 97-98 240's in my area and that was on post i dont know if the car i saw was the same one or two different ones. They were both gold.If i can get money together and have someone to teach me i will do a swap cus to be honest i dont know how to drive a 5speed/stick.So there is the big kicker as well as my arthritis is on a rampage it is hurting so much right now and has not stopped for like 6 months so i am worried.BUt i do notice some lage if i try to just gun my car with an auto but when it goes it goes.

ive seen on a site that u can make your car have a cluthc and stick, and just flip a switch from AUTO to manual, ive seen it for skylines and silvias, i think it would be a good idea, if your in pain, switch to auto, and if u are doing good move to manual

As I've said many many times... I'm really sorry. Truth be told, I'm sorry I sold it in the first place.

I drive a stick cuz I like the control it gives me, plus just lastnight this girl I gave a ride to was totally impressed that I drove a stick so that's just an added bonus.

had a '92 5spd.... now have a '95 5spd.... the best part is I'm the only one that can drive the car in my fam.... the worst part is my sister (older) wants to learn and steals my car occasionally when she's home from NYC... I can tell she stole it from the horrid smell.... aargh

dsc's right, its not a sports car w/o a manual.
unfortunatley, im an auto. i think 5speed-ers dont wanna give em up. and i couldnt wait forever before buying a car, so im just glad to have a 240.
My friends got a v8 mustang (96 i think) and its an auto, I always joke on him saying he doesn't have a real sports car <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> even though I know he'd beat me (straight line anyway) its still fun.

Hehe,
Well I guess I was right... seems like a lot of people with S14s are sportin the auto. I'm glad held out, I love ripping through the gears... even if my car is slow as ####!! Hahaha!

I am BORED when I drive, sometimes I let go of the gas when the car is about to shift, to kind of pretend I'm driving a manual. Hopefully this summer, I'll be able to gather enough money and experience to do the swap. My friend was telling me not to, cause I got into an accident for turning into a corner too fast, I said I slid cause I had no control over the car, if I had a manual, I could've shifted to a higher gear in the middle of the turn to get more traction and avoid the accident.
