Seems like you bought everything new.

Hell, just rebuilding my bottom cost me close to 3.

Actually it can be done as long as your more resourceful finding deals and other subtitutes without sacrificing quality.. I've done several SR and KAT build and didn't even spend as much as you have listed. 2 of which are fully built and 2 are OE SR rebuilds.. Without counting a shell cost below is what I have done before..

S13 SR20DET Build..
- Full S13 SR20 Motorset No turbo ~ $300 " Rod Knock "
- Replacement crankshaft ~ $50 " good used "
- Full OE Nissan Gasket set ~ $120
- Nissan Oil pump new ~ $120
- OE Nissan Bearings and Piston Rings ~ $200
- ARP Head Studs ~ $100
- Maching cost for block and head ~ $300
- Stage 3 XTD Clutch ~ $140
- FMIC Kit CX-Racing ~ $180
- Apexi Catback 3" ~ $120 "used"
- Generic downpipe 3" ~ $40 "used"
- Walbro Fuel Pump ~ $80
- Used S14 T28 Turbo ~ $300
- Misc hoses, plugs and others ~ 150

As you can tell this is just low 2k and and has better parts and practically new engine. This has motor has been done about 2 years ago and has heen sold to a friend of mine here which he ocassionally drives from CA to AZ.

Also I just recently picked up an NA S15 SR20 motorset for less than 300 and was also rebuilt to the same specs and added turbo. Were able to cut down cost since were able to use existing KA wiring and ecu and others. this setup is running strong now and still way below that price range. Shopping around for a good / rebuildable motorset is the key. Knowing to do basic rebuild goes along way. Buying good used quality parts is also better than buying new knockoff parts. this setup also I just sold to another friend of mine which is now running on his S14. We just put about 1k miles on it and now ready for dyno tuning.

NA S15 SR20 motorset

What exactly are your "better" parts? It's a factory rebuild...

And you bought a DE bottomend, which has shittier parts in it. No piston squirters, weaker rods, NA pistons with a narrower top ringland. Sounds like cheap ass, not budget build to me...

Better parts in general. Besided clean new OE bottom end parts are way better than running a motorset which all importers says " it has about 40k on it" lol exactly how can you tell.

FWD SR guys boost NA SR all day long with great results or you can certainly mix and match parts to what ever you want. Granted it doesn't have piston squirters and others as long you know what your limits are then your are fine.

You also dont have a shell on your list. so take off about $900 off my list and im not far off you and i have a lot of new shit. I like how you found a cheaper route, but im doing this pretty fast because I need a second car asap. And for all the people who got "JUNK" motors, well sucks for them. mines great and runs like a kitten. You only hear about the bad stuff man, ever watch the news? :cj:

My Point: Buying New parts cost WAYYYY more. Do research and save money. Unlike me.

But hey, It's all how you look at it. 20 years ago, I could have bought the same car new, And I STILL would have paid more than I have. ( With no Mods... AND a KA.)

I'm on my 3rd SR setup and could've had a new BMW or something fancy with the amount of money I've dumped into it over the last 7 years. I've probably got close to 10k into the latest build, but I stopped counting a few years ago. It's a labor of love and funds pending, I will continue to do it throughout my existence.

I like to think I was was pretty smart about my builds... aside from toasting one motor.

6k is what I was sitting at total. 350whp 325 ft/lb torque. Semi built head 2871r, full race goodies, hks cams.

You have bought a TON of garbage you don't need.

My motorset was $1,700 in great condition, came with a new SPEC clutch and a specialty wiring harness. Why would you waste your money on a new T25 turbo? You don't even have a engine running yet... so how do you know the old one is bad?
