Your Wheel Opinion

Ok, I had a bad thread here about a month ago on offsets, but now this should be much easier heh. Sorry for the trouble. I just got done searching for "offset" and "FN01R-C" and figure now I can post.

I have decided that I definitely want to get the 5Zigen FN01R-C wheels for my S14, but can't decide on which size/offset. I'm rather new to the wheel world, so please help me out with facts/opinion. I really like the 18's, and have been told they look much better/completely different than the 17's in person. But I don't know how big those will be on my car. I'm good about avoiding pot-holes etc, and the roads aren't that bad around here, but I want to be able to DRIVE my car, if you know what I mean. I will be doing some mild auto-x but this will be mainly just a daily driver. Other than the diameter, what about width? At first I was considering a staggered set, 8.5F/9.5R, but now I think I may just get 8.5 all around so that I can rotate my tires. Can you shed some opinion on that as well please? And lastly, offset. This is where I'm totally confused for now. I'm getting coilovers as well, Tein HE, so I think that effects this some. If I went with 18X8.5 all around, or 18X8.5F/18X9.5R, or 17X9.0 all around, what offset would be the best. I don't have rolled fenders, can use spacers but would rather not (unless it's no big deal), and have stock brakes.

Depending on what width you decide to go with I would suggest +30 offset. They fit nice under the fenders but dont look like they are sunk too far in. I also think that you should go with 18x9 and 18x10 for wheel sizes. I have those sizes on my S14 with a +28 in the front and a +22 in the rear. and they look perfect too me!nice big lip! 18s definately look better in my opinion but probably will slow you down a tad.

You can definitely go ahead and take out those +43's :rolleyes: , as well as the +12, even tho they would be freaking pimp :drool: .

Oh yeah, and I'm gonna go with conservative tires. I know I'm weak heh.

17x9+15 needs some nice camber

go w/ either:

5zigen suggestion for s14 (see their website www.5zigenusa.com)

or 17x9 +15 all around..like nitekids hehe
you'll need -2.5 or so degrees cambre, rolled fendesr and nothing crazy tire wise.

oh 9" +35 wont clear front coilovers. youll need a 5-10mm spacer depending on the coilover and how low your car is

I remember an issue of SCC awhile back, with the "Wizards of Bozz" article. The evo 6 I think, had a cool setup that seemed logical. They used staggaring sized wheels, but kept the same size tire. That made the front wheels more square, for easy turn in, and the rears were then, in contrast, more round to let the rear break loose more gradual. Dousan, have you tried anything close to that for drifting/autoX? I was thinking about trying that setup... hell, if Bozz has the proclaimed fastest evo6 in all the world, you figure more would copy.

But wouldn't you want the rears to be really rounded anyways? I thought i remember lots of drifters stretching their tires to fit on large rims so taht its more round, or flatter.

cars are setup to a person's preference and the car's setup.

some people like stretched, some dont (drifters)

soooo...

stretched isnt good (like drifter stretch) for a road race car. and road race setups (and type of tire) isnt always best for drifter

setup one's car to its purpose

Imo 18x9.5 et +22(front) +12(rear) would look hot....
dial in some negative camber and roll the fenders, stretch tires a bit, then slam it....

Thanks. Yeah, I saw that thing on 5Zigen's site, but they didn't give a reccomendation for the 18" sizes, which I think I'm probably going to go with. Also, I forgot to mention but yes I read about that spacer issue on JSpec's site. I think I'm just going to get the 18X8.5 +35 with a small spacer in the front. But then what can I do for the rears? What are the problems I'll face such as the coilovers in the front? I'm thinking either 18X8.5 +30 or 18X9.5 +22 in the rear, hows that sound? Heh, like I said I don't want to do anything hardcore, I'm pretty conservative. I'd love to roll my fenders (well, get them rolled), but I don't live in Cali like most of you guys do... and it's not very easy to find support here in AL. So far I see no reason not to, besides a tad bit decrease in performance, so I've decided to go with 18's.

i'd be less aggressive and get 18x9.5 + 35 in the rear, to flush out more, 18x8.5 +30 in the front is excellent though: i'd get a 5(plate)-10mm(studded) spacer. Running such a low offset in rear might cause it to need fender rolling or tire stretching...unlike dousan i like to see 255's or 265's out back on s14's...
