Well i'm about to start installing a vlsd on my car, too bad no one wanted to be my helper monkey to fetch me tools and beer. So im going at it alone. If you don't hear from me in a few hours it means im either trapped underneath the car and dead or out for some dori dori action and going to die, Wish me luck! ^^

its very easy
just dont drop it on your head
its easier w/ 2 people but one can do it. make sure you haev a good FLOOR jack (not a cheapie pep boys one, but a good 2 ton type..the heavy large type) for ease.

good luck.

its a very simple job.

i know it's easy but, one, i am prone to hitting/dropping object on my head. have a cheapie floor jack, and three, have no one to help.

yeah it sucks, but i wing everything, and i make NO exceptions! if it isn't done half-assed and ghetto fabbed it doesn't belong on my 240P.O.Sx.

with as much posting as you have done, you should've had that thing in and done already! Mine took only an hour.:p

well i waited for a few hours for the socket i needed, but the driver side half shaft was too fubared to put on, so im dead in the water. my friend says i could swap my old usdm 6 start flange into the dif and use the old half shaft too. but wouldn't that require breaking open the dif? im not sure it would work.

On another note, does anyone know how hard it is to change a lsd's output flanges? I have a vlsd with 5 bolt flanges and its going on a car with six-bolt axles. Instead of putting the whole vlsd/axle assembly in, i'd rather just put the open diff's six bolt flanges on the vlsd.

no can do
vlsd output shafts and open diff output shafts are different

you have to change axles

how about changing the 5 star wheel side spider assembly and end over to the 6 star stuff?

looks like you gonna have to cut axle nut off.

A stripped thread should make the nut go on easier....no resistance. Are the threads bent?? Is that why it wont screw on?

Get a hammer and a flathead screwdriver and bend the threads straight. Make sure you have the correct nut for the end bolt, maybe thats why it stripped? (SAE nut on a metric bolt?) Get a grade 8 nut and muscle it onto the bolt.....kinda like using a thread tap but in reverse.

well my plan was to just remove the messed up threads (ala grinder) and then power on the nut (the correct one mind you) and pick up the rest odf the threads. well it almost worked, but after inspecting it i found a large piece of metal stuck into the threads where i stopped after seeing it wasn't moving anymore. my theory is that when i was putting it on it got some metal bits and piled them up until finally they got stuck, so when that happened it stopped forwards movenet of the nut and stripped the threads. after i took the axle off the car i pried off that piece of metal, and along with it came a piece of the thread, two threads wide, half the circumference and about a millimeter or two deep. so anyways i got a new axle from the guy i bought it from and need to clean it up before i put it on. then all will be good.

Its done, this time i spent a an hour cleaning up the threads on the new half shaft i got. Picked off the big stuff with a pick, wire brushed it and then went at it with a v-file. After that nut started on it fine. Time for a test drive.
