View Full Version : Z32 brake swap, brakes don't work!

I installed all four calipers along with a bmc that I had to cut the fitting from another bmc.
Installed z32 conversion lines.
New rotors
I rebuilt the calipers.
I bled all the brakes several times.. When the car is off I build up a constant pressure but as soon as I start the car I lose the pressure.
When I pump the bmc pushes fluid thru and goes down slightly an when I stop pumping it pushes back into the bmc,
Ebrake assembly was also throw in with stock z32 cables. Only thing that works is the ebrake:(

maybe a leak somewhere?
maybe seized calipers...but you rebuilt them so...idk but Explain your steps when you rebuilt the calipers

Started with taking the four bolts safety pin an the pins for the pads, then pushed air thru the bak to release the pistons. , had a friend paint thm. Got rebuild kit from oreillys, replaced seals an then did everything in reverse. They are functional but I just dont get it.

The only thing I can think of is either the bmc or booster, but that would mean I got cheated. Its my stock booster, it worked before so it should be okay for my set up right?

well if theyre on right and you got all the air out of system, and youre not building braking pressure when the car is on then there must be a leak in a line or something.
Can you see a puddle of fluid under any side while the car is on and your pressing the brakes? if not a puddle then inspect every connection in the brake system to see if theres any fluid seeping out.
Also this might not be the problem but in what way did you mount the front calipers, with the bleeder up or down?

I went through this as well. Make sure all the basics are done. Such as:
-Bleeder valves on top of the calipers(not facing downwards)
-Bmc having fluid. Make sure it doesn't run out
-Bench bleed the BMC
-Take off the bleeders and see if fluid is coming through.
-Make sure bleeders aren't clogged
I bought a MightVac and it helped a lot. After you use that, you can stomp on the pedal and it will stiffen, then just continue.

I think your calipers are on wrong that happened to me when I did my swap just switch the calipers around then you should feel pressure just make sure your bleeder is at the top and you should be fine

Plus make sure when you start bleeding the brakes, start from the furthest one away from the BMC. So start with back passenger side and work your way back to the front driver side.

I've been in the same boat when I did my brakes for the first time. Two things that might fix it.
Bleed furtherst caliper from the master, first, then the next, and so on.
Make sure you don't run out of fluid in the master or else you are back to square one.
Are you bleeding correctly? This was my issue, since I didn't know much about cars at the time.
Once you think you are done, turn the car on and see if the pedal feel changes.
Hopefully this helps somewhat, otherwise I think it's a leak, or major air in the lines.

Excellent writeup... Also if all of that is good and still have no pressure you could have an internal leak in the mc or as I had, in my brake booster. You'll never see the leakage but you may hear it when you pump the brakes a lot.

This is important cause if the bleeders are at the bottom you'll never be able to bleed them.
