Go S15 HLSD, I have one but it is not installed yet. It's probably better for daily driving too, I heard that some of those clutch type LSDs can be sensitive in the elements.

Yea, just to further what thelinja said, I remember dousan saying that his SSS is almost at full lock in rain/snow. Also remember about the price for rebuilding. I'm pretty sure that it costs more to repair a gear type lsd, due to the complexity.... but maybe that was just torsion sensative lsds... just my 2 cents

Do Mechnical LSD's like kaaz need to be rebuilt that often?

I'm not positive, but I think KAAZ only makes clutch types. Quafe makes torsion biased differentials(gear type)

Kaaz only do make clutch type LSDs... or, afaik and afa their website lets it be known.

Note also that both clutch pack and helical LSDs can be referred to as "mechanical"... since that's what they are. (sort of how both a transmission and an engine... and your manual windows can all be called "mechanical" parts.)

Clutch pack LSDs do not need to be rebuilt "that often" -- as long as you change the oil regularly (they're supposed to have their oil changed more frequently than your engine oil -- every 3000km is the recommendation). If you don't make LSD oil changes a habit, you'll have problems.

Detailed differences between a helical (torque-biasing) and a clutch pack (v. little slippage, generally either "on" or "off") LSD can be found in a search, as it has been discussed numerous times.

OC240, I assume your references to "230" and "350-400" are horsepower figures, not mileage. In either case, it would not be much of a factor in terms of LSD choice. What's more important is what you plan to do with the car... drift or grip? Track often or rarely? Questions like that are ones you have to answer in order to better decide on which type of LSD is best for you.

edit:
alternatives:
Clutch Pack:
Nismo
Cusco
ATS
Tomei
Torsen/Gear-type/Helical:
Quaiffe
Peloquin (not sure if they make them for our cars, though)

ok to reply to your post adey, it was horsepower that i was referring to ....now i plan on doing some drifting, some track, some drag, but its still a daily driver....i want something low maintence thats gonna last but does a good job....

what are the pros and cons between the helical and the clutch type....which is better for me....is the s15 lsd as good as some of kaaz or tomei lsd's....

and i dont think quaiffe makes lsd's for our car..

i really prefer to get a new lsd , because i dont want to deal with problems....but if you can reccomend me what you think i need because i dont know which type is for what i need

Go to the motorsports forum and read the LSD thread. I think it's called "LSD of Choice" or something along those lines. VERY GOOD thread.

Has anyone used the Tomei LSD? you can use it on a non-lsd diff and you dont have to change the axle shafts.

Tomei is supplied by KAAZ

tomei=kaaz

which means, high quality unit
i know some folks w/ Tomei, t-trax advance i think

they love it

I'm going to have to agree that the Tomei technichal trax is quality and that JSPEC is having a good deal on them with install. I can't explain it but when going through turns, the tail is planted better and it feels like 4-wheel steering or something like that. The backend just goes through the turns nicer now. I just have to get used to it.
