I checked search and nothing specific on SR rebuilds. I would like to make sure my engine is ready for the hp I will add. I dont want to replace things here and there along the way. I want to go ahead and replace everything now. My uncle is a great mechaninc and done many rebuilds imports and domestic. We have a good machine shop in town. I just need to know where to start. Are there any rebuild kits availible?? I did see that phase2motortrend has some rebuild parts. Can anyone give me some advice? :aw:

There are many different levels of rebuilds...from simply replacing the bearings and rings to stroking the engine, solid lifters, the whole works. How much money are you looking to spend and what sort of power are you looking for?

I am looking to spend around 1000.00 I just want to replace all the seals, bearings, rings, gaskets, a EZ install kit from Heavythrottle for the hoses and stuff. Add some rocker arm stoppers and wisco rods and pistons. I hope the rods, pistons and machining the block will be the bulk of the cost. I just want to know Im doing it right. I dont want to put 260 to 300 hp on a 60 to 70 thou mile engine drive it hard and expect it to last another 60 to 70. I know you understand. I will be drag racing, and drifting. The car will also be my daily driver.
If this is the wrong way to go please give me some suggestions now that you know what I will be doing. I did use search but there is nothing specific on what I am asking.
This is the site I was looking at about the piston kit tell me if I am going in the right direction.

It will be difficult to hold the rebuild at a thousand...
For the Wiseco rods and pistons alone you're looking at a thousand, if I'm not mistaken. The bearings will run about 150. Stoppers are about $70. Machining the block will be something like $150 to $200. Assuming labor's free, there's always miscellaneous costs here and there..micropolish, magnaflux, etc.
Even with 70K on an engine, I believe you can squeeze 260-300 out of it fairly easily. There's no telling how many miles the Jspec, enjku, secret services engines have on them, but they're pushing way past that on stock internals, with minor headwork...so I think you're safe. I think your best option would be to drive it at your desired power level (~300), save up money, then rebuild it in one year (maybe even two) when it gives out on you..

I guess what Im trying to say is I want to do as much as possible to make sure the engine will give me peek performance and reliability past two years as you stated. What is involved in making an engine as reliable as a new 0 mile engine?
So your saying I can keep everything stock and just replace the bearings, rings, and gaskets. I can add the stoppers.
Will machining the block and the use of new stock pistons instead of wiseco's keep the cost down? What do you or anyone suggest I do to

I wouldn't worry about replacing the SR20DET's internals. Enjuku racing has pulled 544whp on the engine's stock internals; however, they have replaced the headgasket (1.1mm metal headgasket), ferrea valve springs, RAS, and camshafts.

You just have to make sure your air/fuel ratio is correct, good oil pressure (upgrade the factor oil pan to the greddy baffled one - adds 1qt. oil capacity to the motor) - basically, as long as you tune the car correctly it will be fine.
