Can't remember this ever being asked and I was curious cause for the massive amounts of S13's sold compared to S14's it seems that there more S14 people on here. So which one do you own (notice I said OWN not WANT or I'M GONNA BUY SOON) Also no need to debate which one's better, we all know the S13's better
So I'm one vote in the S13 ownage column

I went from the S13 to the S14. Since I consider that an upgrade, it's pretty #### obvious the S14 is better

I think it all depends what the owner does with it that determines whether its better or not.

s14 (98)
I waited a couple of months (driving a crappy old Chevy Lumina with transmission problems during that time) to find a good 97/98 s14, when some one down my street had a 92 s13 for sale the whole time.
MMM, which one do I like better ..... ?

Bah! S14 all the way Mikey!!!!!
S14 is too different for my tastes.. the interior doors and windows sit higher and its visibility is sorta reduced.. the car is heavier and harder to throw around.
Although, I am sure all of that stuff is good.. because the car is obviously more solid. In an accident, I am sure the S14 is stronger.. handling wise, I know its less quirky. But still, there is a certain seat of your pants feel that only an S13 has.
Besides, its gangsta'.. :) I've always had a liking for hatches..

my hockey equipment definitely fit better in the hatch..... and the S13... you could just throw it around. the S14 feels like a more mature car, and it's grown on me. just get both, and have the best of both worlds
Having the *BEST* of both worlds would mean having a Lexus SC and dropping in a Supra-TT motor with Supra-TT brakes.

Had a 92 S13... Now I have a 97 LE. . both were LEs actually hehe. .
After evaluation, I much prefer my S14. . it feels more refined and less ready to fall to shit like my S13 did (but that was just old age)... I mean, if my S13 was a human, it was so old it's balls would be hanging to its knees!!
But. . if I had both cars in same shape, and same year (97 180sx with KA hehe) shit I dunno I'm going to sleep now.

I really like all of the 240's. I don't understand why so many people hate the coupe. I find the convertible rather nice. I really like the hatches too, there are some NICE ones on this board.
But, when forced to choose (as I was in May of last year when I bought my car), it would be the 97/98 s14. I love the shark eyes and lines of the s14.

i thought so too based on these stats:
S13 SOHC - 128,700
S13 DOHC - 83,038
S13 convertible - 1,167
S14 - 32,448
S14a - 5,833
that's 212,095 s13's ever made vs. 38,281 s14's produced. so that means for every s14 there is, there should be 5-6 more s13's around.

it's debatable on the exact term for the 97-98's, but if u see s14 & s14a or s14a & s14b together then the 97-98's would always come second. they r also referred to as s14mc, minor change or something similar.

lol hey we're in this together againist the riced out hondas and other assortment of posers. I have a 90 fastback though. But if it comes down to it id say the S13 is a better track car then the S14 due to its lighter weight and its more compact design. Not to mention that Nissan engineers admitted to the fact that the S14 was made with more consideration towards the US market and that it had more of a "luxury" element to it then the S13. The S15 was based very closely on the S13 to bring it back to its pure sport car roots. S14 owners dont take this the wrong way, both S13s and S14s are sick and Id easily choose them over any car on the market today (besides maybe a FD3S). Its all about FR turbo cars.
zephyr
01-15-2002, 10:50 PM
I just think that in the eyes of a common person, the standard sports car image fits cars like (blech) mustangs, cameros, 180sx, s13 fastbacks, rx7s etc. Its not anything to do headlights or rear ends, its just the total composition of the car and the body lines. When i say s14's aren't sports cars what I mean is that they don't look like sports cars. S14s and silvias are in the same category(lookswise, not performance) as m3's and evo's and gt-r's....as well as preludes, civics and accords.
and considering s13's and s14's have the exact same engine looks are the only difference between them

Then where do they get GT-R from?
Besides, the lines are blurred between Sportscar and Grand Tourer in many cases. I'm allowed to run STS in the SCCA b/c they don't considere my car a sportscar...based soley on the fact that it has a back seat. I never said the S14 is a coupe or a GT. It's just a sports car to me. My defining lines are:
-non-existent or diminutive back seat=sportscar (240SX, Miata, Prelude)
-semi-luxury sporty coupe/sedan=grand tourer (M3, GTR, Lancer EVO, WRX)

LoL... speedvision had a history of BMW this morning. If anyone says the M3 isn't a sports car... they probably have an SUV up their ass.

to clear things up i am talking only about looks, as in body lines/body style, not speed and engine
what im saying is that if you go only by engine you'd have to count that nasty ass turbo minivan as a sports car...not to say that an m3 doesnt look better
seeing that we are, in fact comparing the s13 to the s14 which have the exact same engine, looks are the only thing which make them different

I have an interesting question..I won't direct it at anyone in particular and I hope no one takes offense to it. If you guys look at the topic, it says "S13 or S14" and the description says "what do you have?".
Instead of us just posting what we have, a lot of us (ie: not all) seem to be bashing the other models in the process. Personally, I am relatively new to this board and 240's in general (Having purchased my first 240 in May of '01) but truthfully I like all the models, which is exactly what my original post states.
Why do we have to bash each others cars? The main thing I love about 240 owners and boards in general is that they seem to be so friendly and knowledgable not just to 240 owners but to owners of other brands/models as well.
I guess what I'm trying to get at is..let's not bash each others cars, regardless of what model/year it is. When it comes down to it, we still all love 240's and Nissan, which is what brought us here in the first place.

I pull into a gas station where there is another 240, and rest assured we both circle each others cars, and talk for like 5 minutes, then race off together. All the time. That might be what I like best about the car. I never drove the s13. I love my s14. It has the best lines of any car ever, other than maybe the s15.... but I like my taillights better... so you know. I got no beef with people. or there cars, you drive a 240, and you are ok with me... unless it is rusted and not taken car of and you bought it cause it was cute, then never changed the oil for 30k and wonder why it breaks down.... you tell em nismo. if i had a dollar for every time i've beaten a DOHC i'd have.....ok only $8 but still. even the magazines said there was hardly any difference and they don't know where the 15 extra horsepower went but it didn't go in the motor. haha. i'm sure it's somewhat superior in someways but once you fix them up they can run just as well once ported and polished. a lot of racers prefer the SOHC. obviously sexy240 doesn't know what they're talking about.

oh its a simple as this people i dont knwo if u us people ahve hot 4's over ther but its a mag anw i would liek to take the time to read or should i say write to u what was said in there.
According to "John Tang" the owner of speedwork the australian no.1 jun dealer, nissan silvia s13 is a more logical choice than a s14 for a PERFORMANCE build-up. "to begin with you can buy a s13 for less money than a s14. the s13 weighs less and has a shorter wheelbase. so its basic handling is better than the s14 too. The s14 is basically a look at me i ahve a nice car with a relly cool bodaykit. for a performance build-up the s14 is a stupid choice. if u look at the drift scene in japan at the moment u will see taht the s13 handles its self much better., which is why they are such a commen thing over there."
need i say more people.
the s13 is much better unless the only thing u plan on using your car for is looking good.

I don't know if any Japanese car can really be exotic, but exclusive I will go for. There are quite a few S14s in my town. I'd say at least 8 out of a population of 50,000. But there are only Two or Three 97-98.
As far as styling I'd rather have a late-model S13 hatchback than a 1995-1996 S14. Those first two years of S14 just didn't do it for me. I wanted a 1994 hatchback since I was 16 like 4 years ago. At the same time I wanted the new 97/98 240. A few years later after searching for almost a year I finally found my 5 speed 1998.
I could certainly see how owning an S13 would be more fun, as far as performance. But a car must also look good in my opinion, but I'm not really all about performance.

I think that would count more for the tun quotient. The S13 is a good looking car. And was an awesome looking car 5 years ago. But lines date and styles change. I guess the lines of that car (to me) aren't timeless. As I'm sure in 5 years I wont think my S14 to be so cool either.
I'm just saying park two stock 240s next to each other. S13 & Late model S14 and which looks better? Not to a racer or a tuner, but just to an average person (not saying that their vote counts to most) but the S14 is a better looking car.

Hatchbacks were sold here in the states from 89-93. 180sx 's(hatchbacks with SR20DET's) i.e. RPS13's were sold in Japan till late 98 They were still on listed on Nissan Japans website as a production vehicle in the year 2000. after that Nissan removed them from their website.
they body design of the Hatchback is not really all that dated either it is actually still a very current design . Actually it looks better than a lot of the current designs coming out of most of the manufacturers. New Celica's are just butt ugly . Most new Mitsu's don't look good either. WRX's are ok .
S14's look nice for a coupe. s13 hatchs look like what they are sport cars.

I like all the 240s, personally. Just recently got mine a couple months ago, was forced to pick between a 93 se hatch w/ 5spd or a 98 se w/ auto.
It was kind of a tough choice, because i do kind of love the angry eyed headlights in a way, but then again i do love the later s13 hatches. What it came down to was a) the manual tranny and b)i'm getting basically almost the same car for $7000 less.
I love my s13, but the s14a are probably my favorite looker just cause of the headlamps and the kind of supra style tails. I'm not too big on the older s13s with the nostrils and the 95-96 headlamps.
