Ok i'm a total stereo noob so help me out here. I got a Pioneer DEH-P750MP mp3 player for bday, and it rather quickly blew the remnants of my speakers away. So now i have to get new ones.

So which ones do u ppl recommend? Found out that s14s have 4x6.5 but thats as far as my research went. Still no clue as to what to buy. This is not part of big stereo upgrade, just speaker replacement. So something not extremely expensive, yet something good :) Thanx

Pioneer TS-A1680R 220 watt 3-way speakers. They're good speakers and inexpensive. They vary from $55-$75 depending on where you go to get them. They're 6 1/2'' speakers that'll fit the doors of your S14 perfectly. In case you don't know, S14's OEM speakers are 6 3/4'', but the Pioneer TS-A1680R has an outer ring that allows for the install without using a spacer. I installed them in my S14 last week and was very impressed. As for the rear speakers, I used Pioneer TS-A1767 speakers that I got for free and they aren't bad. Don't really know the specs on them so I couldn't tell ya.

My $0.02

I have polk speakers all around in my car. Polks give you a great bang for the buck.

I think you will get the best sound from a good component system. get some nice tweaters for the pillars, midrange for the doors, and good woofers in the rear deck.

Although that system will probably cost a little more than some 3 ways.

Check out Cruthfield.com for good details and shopping info, although better prices can be found elsewhere. They have excellent customer service people too.

what's your price range?

the mb quart components are nice but if you dont want to bother with tweets and x-overs then just get a nice 3 way set

MB Quart is the way to go, Polk is also a good one just get their top of the line stuff (I think DX).

lol, from polk to quart and NOWHERE inbetween....

dont buy polk!

quart is expensive,
pioneer makes a series of speakers called REV's, they use a kevlar cone and a soft dome tweeter, and can be had for just more than 100$ and sound great in an s14's doors.

mtx also makes a good midrange speaker, for alot less money.

i would stay away from anything pioneer that isnt a rev series,

Personally I swear by alpine. I got 6x9 type R's in my doors and 5x7 type R's in the back and it sounds awesome

Try eclipse speakers (fujitsu ten) best ive heard in the lower to mid price range, its all preference, but i dont think mb, polk, alpine or even focals can compare, and definitely not pioneer.

the eclipse stuff is good, however their very low line isnt the greatest for the money, now the Point source sounds awesome, for a coaxial.

eclipse only makes 2 types, components and pointsource iirc, you might be mistaken w/their older models which ppl sell on ebay and etc.

no they dont. i sell eclipse at an authorized dealer

they have the
line source, (high end component, ribbon mid)
SC series, moderate cost, comparable to focal polyglas
point source, integrated fancy ass tweet'd coax
and the integrated series, the cheaper line, from 70 to about 125$

Ok thanx for all the replies guys. I think im going to stick with pioneer given my mp3 player is made by them, so i was looking at the rev line. Im set on the REV TS-D170R. just wonna make sure the s14 speakers are 6 3/4" all around?

y'know, instead of asking "what brand is good" you shoulda just asked "what do you have"

Any topic asking for product opinions, of course most people are going to tout what they have :P

That said, my Infinities are great :P

Yeah, looks like just about everything is mentioned here.
But, I had some prety cheap ~$75-$100/pair kenwood and pioneers(sorry, dont remeber any model #s) before in my 200SX and I thought for the price they were pretty good if you are just looking for something cheap.

I have MB quarts all around now, and I love them. If you do a little searching you may be able to get a reasonable price. i got mine as the previous years model on ebay at about half the retail price. Still way more that the cheap ones though.
