if your concerned about your resale value, go to the dealership and have them install a new cluster
I was told its a fairly common thing to happen. I bought mine and the odometer said 11000 kms on it. I also had a receipty from the the dealership saying it had been changed at 116000kms too. Otherwise, just swap the whole cluster yourself

Sanchi: I was just looking at your 240SX gallery. I'm curious, did you buy your maroon S14 from a dealership on Amar in La Puente?

I had the same problem with the odometer and speedometer when I first bought my 96 it had 72,000mi. The dealer said it was a bad speed sensor, they replaced it and voila...no more problem. A friend of mine is looking at a 96 too and the seller told him it's doing the same thing and it has 105,000mi.
It's a pretty common thing.
That happen to me... It stopped working for like a week. Then just started working again... has worked ever sense lol

Bad Speed sensor u say... anyone know where i can locate this speed sensor by anychance?? its not a big probem but i would like to know how many miles im getting per tank. I just cleaned out my entired fuel system and im getting an INSAIN amount of miles every week.. well normaly i would have to full up like every 5 days and now with the same driveing if not more i get like a week and a half almost im sure im getting like 360+ miles per/tank!! WOOT!!
but thats another story so anyone know where i can locate the speed sensor??

my 92 needed a new speedometer head- 3 screws to replace it in the the guage cluster, works fine now!
it would work once in a while, mostly not
Well my old cluster was a analog and it stopped working sometimes, but most of the time the speedo would go crazy, like CRAZY!!! it would jump up and down at different speeds. Then i changed it to a digital cluster and it was fine. So i dont think it was my speed sensor. Do you guys think its just my aalog cluster thats messed up? and can the dealer fix that for free?

The clicky clcky problem.... My odometer died at 189,000. It is probably a stripped gear inside the cluster. The same thing happened on my old Audi.

depends, could be cluster, could be speed sensor, could be just some wire.
you are cluster fucked...
haha, get it?
anyway you could prolly get some of that shit cheap off someone parting out a car, might be cheaper to try another cluster or speed sensor yourslef than to pay someone to figure it out.

Well, try looking up a couple of salvage yards, I think the speed sensor is the same for autos AND manuals so that will give you a better chance. Try sticking to your model 240 though. I've heard alot of electrical problems coming from various model electrical swaps. So s14, get s14 speed sensor, etc. Also try looking through sale forums like this one for parted out cars. Good chance there. And if all else fails, go to Nissan and get one, I think they run about 100 bucks for a brand new one. Not extremely expensive but maybe expensive enough to make you just live with it.
Look at the bright side, at least 240s come with tachometers so you can guess your speed, cause then you'd be f*cked either way!!!
Good luck.
