my car, like others has had a bad idle for awhile. ive noticed the idle goes bad after i push it past 95mph (or 4k rpm) for short periods. im guessing since its usually after pushing it like this it may be something with the fuel stuff (as opposed to electrical) im in the middle of going down the checklist of things to check as we speak. so far...

-put in a new fuel filter.
-i took out the AIV and plugged all the holes (BTW spark plugs are perfect for the intake pipe hole and the hole from the doohickie thats metal and connected to the engine).
-i also bought a new air filter,
-am going to change to battery cables cause theyre bad
-changed the distributor, cap, rotor, spark plugs and plug wires

problem #2 just now i was looking at the hoses from the intake (the ones i plugged after removing AIV, and the ones that lead into the engine itself. while i was there i heard a clicking sound coming from the valve cover. it sounds like something is loose and flaoting around in there. i wouldnt be as alarmed if it had some kind of pattern to it, but it goes off and on for a couple of seconds then disappears, then comes back on etc. the clicking itself has no pattern though.

any ideas about this clicking? also any other things to check for my idle? it still almost stalls after i push it hard then sit at a stopsign.

the clicking is probably the timing chain guide. you can do a search for more info.

adjust your idle (do a search)

try running some premuim fuel.... I had this problem and it was sparkplugs once and a fuel filter the second time.

If your going to drive that fast, be sure to do it safely (duh)

you can do 4000 rpms in first, second and third gear too.
