Anyways, past the shitty company buyouts (Naka) and hard to use funk (Pioneer) buy the Alpine 7949. It has a couple plated chassis and a couple of really high end features. I do believe it features MDAC, it also has a fancy display. It's kinda old school. It will also Integrate with an Alpine SEA-8081 alarm very nicely. If the 7949 is only $50 more buy it! You do know that those are both preamp only decks? If you have any other question I know quite a bit about /////ALPINE and their lines. Thanks man!
Jeff

DSC,
I don't know. Eclipse > (Fijitsu Ten) > (Mashusta) < (Panasonic) = (800 other electronics brands that Mashusta owns) They make good stuff. It was very cool 3 years ago until they made their decks look like Clarion, and put in those ////|||||\\\\ angled star wars displays. But as far as quality they are excellent. I just hate the look. I myself am a big Alpine fan. I want to post the install of my stealth stereo somewhere on this site, but I don't know who to ask... do you?

Is that a joke? These CD players are like 3 or 4 years old man! Burners were barely even around. The 7949 was the shit in like 1998. I'll sell you my 7969 for $500. It plays CD-R just fine. And it isn't so #### old!! It's also way cooler than both of those decks.

yeah eclipse is good stuff, there is a place i checked out on the weekend that deals in them and i am considering upping my speaks with it, but its in the same price bracket as MB Quart, Boston, JL, i i think i'd trust them a bit more, but i def would not pass up any eclips efer a good deal...
i mgiht have a line on a zapco 100 x 2, last years... going for 599 canadian, might be able to snatch it for a bill or less, we'll see

i hear the 7949 has a bit of a problem, but the all i know is the 7941's predecessor, the 7940 couldnt read cd-r's at all, I would definately pick the 7949 over the 7941. the 7949 however only has a regulated 1 bit DAC

Well if any of you all are looking for car audio stuff like amps or speakers or whatever I work at a store between classes so I can sometimes score an excellent deal on stuff. Just e-mail me or post & ask. I'll help anyone out!

Grant,
Are you sure the 7949 didn't have the M DAC in it? I can't remember what high end Alpine unit did. I know mine doesn't have it. So I thought the 49 did. The MDAC is still a 1-bit D/A.
I dunno...

I just looked it up... You're right Grant... was it really only the D852 / D855 that ran the MDAC? I know the S624 has MDAC too....
