Hello all,
I'm new to the forum so I'm not sure if this is the right place for this or not. I've been entertaining the idea of getting a small project car now that I finally have free time on the weekends and my own garage. I stumbled across a 1990 240SX for sale near my parents house the other day, the car wasn't listed for sale but I left a note under the windshield asking if the owner would be willing to sell it. My phone died at work today so when I turn it on I have a voicemail from the owner saying he'd be willing to sell it for the right price and to come drive it and make him an offer.

The owner is an older gentleman and has owned the car since new, it is unmodified and appears to be in great shape. He said it runs great and assuming I check it out and nothing is wrong I think this may be a nice car to start with since it has obviously not been modified by the previous owner. Ultimate plans for the car are an SR20DET/manual trans swap and down the road modify the suspension. I just want a casual project to work on when I'm home on the weekends.

Now, my question to you guys is what (approximately) is a 1990 240SX, 143,000 miles, automatic, hatchback worth? If region makes a difference I am in the suburbs of New York City.

Clean, stock 240SX, NO RUST, good paint. Needs nothing?

$3,500.

That is what you can expect to pay for any good running car.

if he has not driven it in a while, he`d be willing to sell that thing for cheap. bring cash and show it to him when you make an offer. i`d say start with a grand.

From what I saw it looked to be in great shape. Obviously, I didn't get to thoroughly look the car over or anything but it looked like it has been taken care of over the last 20 years.

It does get driven, I asked my parents if they ever see it around town and they see it once in a while at the train station. There were other cars in his driveway though so I doubt he DDs that over the newer MB's parked at the house. Definitely plan on bringing cash, if he agrees on a low enough price when I go see it on Friday I'll be buying it then.
