I have a slight problem, When I am shifting through the gears, unless I am going very easy, it feels like my whole driveline, tranny, engine, rear jerks. I had the engine and tranny mounts checked and they are supposedly good. I have very soft shocks in the back. could this be a part of this. also can the cross member have anything to do with this problem. any thoughts or ideas would be apreciated.

Thanks for the replys. The sub frame bushing could be worn. how would I tell if I need new subframe bushings. How also would I check the drive shaft to see if its worn. also are there any other bushings that I should check. Thanks.

This may seem odd, but do you have a LSD? When I drive hard, I can hear and feel my lsd(mechanical) grab and it kinda jerks, that might be what ur experiencing

its not your shifting? lol
You can also check the tranny brace. When we installed my J30 diff I had a small shock until I could get the proper bolts in there to secure it.

I am not sure if I have an lsd or not, it is a 96 se and it feels kinda different when I am driving it than my other non lsd s13's. It also has a stage 3 clutch that is tight as all get up. Which might be How do you tell if you have a lsd and also what does it feel like when you shift with one.

Based on the questions you are asking mr.spool I really doubt you have an LSD, or even if you did, the type you would have would not cause this jerk you are talking about. Check for loose parts under the car hehe

Thanks for the reply, I have checked every thing under the car. all the bolts are tight, I recently replaced the majority of the driverside suspension components, control arms, tc rods, tie rods, and so forth. What about my questions sudjests that I do not have an lsd. and is there a way to tell, Thanks

well, a open diff and a vlsd engage (or lack of engagement lol ) very softly. If you had a mechanical diff you wouldn't be asking the question "do I have a lsd"
Its not your shifting is it?

I do not believe it to be my shifting, although i thought this at first, this is the 4th 240 I have owned and never had this problem, I am also used to driving using a stage 3 clutch due in part to driving civics set up for track usage, they have some of the tightest clutches possible. I ask the questions about the lsd becouse I do not know what parts were installed before I purchased it. As far as I can tell this car has had just about every aftermarket part available for our cars and I wouldn't doubt that this has been upgraded or swithched at some point. The previouse owner took maticulouse care of his vehicle and put an awsome amount of time and money into it. How do I check the subframe bushings to see if they are in good condition. Thanks.

My car sometimes does that too but I just work around it by pressing down on the gas pedal a little slower.

The symptoms you are talking about typically involve differential and driveshaft.. those are the main 2 items that clunk, cause vibration, and get worn as the miles go by.

there are reletively low miles on this particular car. I believe that it is around 70k or so. Is there a way to check them out to tell what went bad. Also i can for the time being shift easily to aliviate the jerk but I have a 250rwhp turbo kit waiting on my shelf to go in. I would like to know before this goes in that there are absolutly no issues with with the drive train and suspension. I apreciate all the impute.

Mine does this too. But only going from second to third. I am kinda on it hard, then shift, and right when I put the clutch in and barely push the shift knob, it goes shooting out of gear and kinda jerks. Kinda wierd.
