View Full Version : ka24de charging problems?
I got a problem. its a 93 ka24de coupe.
long story short.
battery was low, wouldnt crank. Jump started. Ran it for a bit, took a volt meter to the bat. showed 10volts. turned headlights on car died. all this was at idle, didnt rev it or anything. took the alt off and took it to advance and it tested good. odd....
Would a bad battery only show 10volts?
Maybe a bad starter?
is the alt really bad?
idk:facepalm:

Sounds like your alternator is junk! Pretty sure a good battery should pull at least 13 volts at the terminals. So since you say the alternator tested fine, replace the battery and see if it fixes it.
Yeah, Advance showed me it tested good. I just wasnt sure that a bad battery can read at 10v.

have the battery charged first before you do any more checking. it`s always a good idea to have the battery fully charged before testing the charging system. once the battery is fully charged, check the voltage with the ignition off and all of the accessories off. then start the engine and rev it a few times before checking the voltage of the battery again. if the voltage is higher than when the engine was off, the alternator is working. but if it`s not 14.1 volts or higher, the alternator is not working properly. also check the voltage at the alternator where the big wire is screwed onto. if the voltage there is 14.1 or higher, you might have a blown 75 amp fuse or a break in the wire. good luck

did you put the volt meter on it when the car was running? if so then it sounds like the alt is the problem as the battery does virtually nothing when the car is running if it has a good alt so even if the battery was bad you should have still been getting at least 14 volts if the alt was good
I got it fixed! thanks guys! it was the positive wire comming off the alt to the relay box.
