I'm so goddamned frustrated with this shit.
Pop-up ads make me want to never be associated with the product they're for. It's gotten to the point nowadays that if you're not computer savvy and you go to the wrong website, you'll get bombarded with small adware/spyware programs that are hard as FUCK to get rid of, and you'll CONSTANTLY be barraged by popups.
I just got finished deleting 3 such programs from my computer, and you wanna know how i got them? Trying to read a videogame review. Some shitty site decided that to get funding to keep it going, it had to host those bastard little ad programs for the unsuspecting user to download by pressing 'NO' when asked if the user wanted to make that his homepage. Holy fucking trickery. I'll be happy when the internet is free of these annoyances.
Needless to say, i'm never going to that site again, and i'll keep a close eye on the sites i DO frequent.

If i ever find the guy who came up with the idea for pop-ups, i'll kill him.
very very slowly.

I also hate popup ads. My brother was over my apt. over this past week and used my computer alot and I noticed alot of damn annoying pop-ups. I am pretty much going to have to do what you done and delete files that I don't freckin use. I know of one good internet explorer called MyIE which has popup blocker. You should try to download that.

www.lavasoftusa.com - go get adaware, update it, and run the scan
www.opera.com - popup blocking kicks ass with this browser, not to mention tabs and mouse gestures. it is by far my favorite browser. i also have a keygen for it to get rid of the ads if you decide to try it...pm me or whatnot.

use ad aware and spy bot at the same because adaware misses some things that spybot picks up and spybot misses some things that adaware picks up

Yeah, I totally feel that. I've been getting these audio ads lately and it pisses me off beyond belief. I'll just be sitting here with nothing open on my computer at all, and audio will just start playing, adverstising some shit. Anyone else get this?

it's probably your 'new-improved' AIM. Just close the main window and reopen it.. you don't have to shutdown AIM.

Yeah, I think someone told me it was AIM one time but I didn't think anything of it. Stupid AOL. I'll try that next time. Thanks.

I'm using Avant Browser. Fast, no popups, no spyware, never had an error that caused it to crash (like IE likes to do), and it's based on a IE6 platform so all sites support it. I d/l'd it from cnet.com.

Just hope it doesn't get like Minority Report, where floating holograms pop out of walls and call you by name.

Adaware works plenty good for me, oh and a personal software firewall couldn't hurt either, so you KNOW whats going in and comming out.

Just hie behind a router or another pc, and then add a software firewall and the only spyware you should be getting is the spyware you brought upon yourself (porn).

Download Ad-aware 6, Window Washer 5, and Netscape Navigator 7.1

I switched from IE to Netscape last week because it got so bad that I would get 4 debug screens every time a page loaded.

Now on Netscape I cant believe how much better it is. You can tab multiple webpages at the top of the browser (instead of opening multiple windows in your windows bar...and using up tons of RAM). Also, the new version of Netscape has a popup blocker built in, and it works for all popups that I've come across....except the one that pops up on Nescape.com
