Hey all,
I have a question i did search but it seem that im getting a bunch of diffrent answers here. I just wanted to know what a stock sr20det headgasket can hold in power?
I read 420rwhp and i read 350whp is max. Witch is it i kinda need to know forsure what it can hold cause im plaining on putting more power down and i need to know if i should change it or can i skate by. Im plaining on going to 400whp so im hoping it will hold that power.
Thanks guys.

That's heavily dependent on your tune and supporting mods/turbo/fuel/etc.
It's definitely possible to hold 400whp on stock internals. Would I feel comfortable doing it? No, not really. However, if I had a rock solid and safe tune and running e85 with a dependable knock light and plenty of fuel, I'd feel okay about it. No SAF-C bullcrap.

No no i got a full standalone and a great tuner and i got all the surrounding mods and 1200cc topfeed injectors. I just worrie about the headgasket more then anything else
i have heard its good to about 17-18psi. it is just a composite gasket. if it were me and i wanted more than that id throw in a mls one. just my .02

If your so worry about it.. just get one. i would do MHG and Arp Headstuds if i were you, just for insurance you know.

Most people switched to MLS and aftermarket studs when hitting north of 300whp on SRs. Plus if you have 1200cc injectors in your mod list, why the hell you are still thinking about stock headgasket?

Cause out here where i live to do a hg its like 1000.00 i rather use that 1000.00 on something else. If i was able to get the gasket done for like 500.00 i woukd be ok with that.
Im picky about who rouches my car so theres only 1 or 2 people that has ever touch my car and 1 tuner witch is a very good friend of mine. So for me to try and find someone to install it for cheaper im sure i can find someone but what kinda work you going to get? That saying keeps poping in my head you get what u pay for.
The money i have into my motor is not worth trying to get it cheaper fron someone i dont no. I know im trying to take the cheap way out and in the long run ill pay for it. But i was hoping that the hg woukd hold 350-380whp but it seems you guys have ur dnouts witch isnt sitting well with me.
You guys are going to make me spend this 1000.00 :duh:
u could always be a guinea pig and see how much it would hold. just keep ur 1000 till it lets go.
If you aren't willing to pay for the extra security then I suggest you lower your HP expectations. It seems like you are planning on going all out with your setup so why not spend a little bit more for the reassurance.

Do the metal head gasket yourself there is plenty of write ups on how to do it step by step. It can probley handle it but for how long. Spend the money do it right or don't do it at all

I can see what ur staying but lets say i push it to the limits without the hg. Lets say that the motor pops i can get a new long block for 800.00 thats why im kinda like not wanting to spend the money. Cause for 200.00 cheaper i can just get a hole new long block
I dont no yet thats why u havent uped the boost. Still thinking about i have time cause in still waiting on my new sc61 turbo to get in
Sure you can get a new long block, but who is going to install it? If it pops what do you do if you have bent valves or something worse. Then you'll want to add the studs and the head gasket at that point. And if this is your daily driver then you are talking about down time.
Don't know boss its your call, but if you pop your motor I'm sure the cost to get it back to where you want it will be at least double the cost of getting it done now.
Good luck.

Build it. Some guy made a good point in a thread i read the other day. So what if you saw someones motor make so and so hp, that doesnt mean that your 15+ year old motor will. Im sure more motors have failed at less than what your aiming for than the ones that made 400+. Theres nothing to prove by making a lot of power on stock bottom end, so do it right the first time. There is a ton of info on how to work on these motors and they are very easy to build and im sure that youll end up wanting more power. Instead of blowing it and wasting 800 on an unnecessary longblock, spend a little more and build it with that 800. Just my .02

If you are pushing that much power why don't you just upgrade to an apexi 1.1mm metal head gasket? They are a little expensive but well worth it in the long run!

http://zilvia.net/f/sale-items/421754-je-pistons-manley-rods.html boom, thats a steal. As long as theyre stock CR. Then get a headgasket, and piston rings
Yeah guys he's trying to avoid having to tear into the motor.

+1 im try to leave it as is. Im shot for 400whp that should be good for mid 11s so i be ok with that. Trying to make this as plainless as possable.

I understand that, but im just giving my opinion on him trying to make that much power on stock bottom end. But more power to you, do your own thing. Just let us know how it goes...
