Whats up. Today i installed the Apexi N1 catback today and I didn't put the ground wire back on.As i was test driving the car car after the insatll I noticed drops in rpm at stop lights. This never happend to me before so I'm I'm thinking that it's a direct result of not including the ground wire back in the install. Can it be only that or can I also reset the CPU now that have added an aftermarket exhaust?

Thanks,
Joe

wtf are u talkin about???

there is no ground wire. the low rpm maybe cuz the ecu has to get use to it supposedly.

jus ride it out..it will be fine

yeah.. it's for static buildup. The 240sx has ton's of weird grounding issues (any 10+ yr old car does)

Reconnect it, it may help. Never hurts to add more grounds too. The "hyper-ground" systems help idle a lot, and they are EASILY reproduced from much cheaper parts.

I've heard the main reason it's there is to ground the exhaust, thereby protecting it somewhat from rust.

I did re install it and the idle isn't too bad. When i step on the break it drops just a bit. It's strange because it seems like it happend in conjunction w/ the exhaust install. There was never an idle issue before the install...it's not the end of the world I guess

Maybe its just more noticable now because you can hear it.

My car does this, and I know of at least 5 s13's that do this. I tends to be bad grounding.

I tried a few things to fix it, but haven't gotten around to the extra grounding yet, but it's worked for others.

Thats some of the weirdest stuff I've heard of.... grounding the exhaust? I just thought that exhaust fumes went through it.
Ya ever think about the O2 sensor isn't getting a good reading because the larger diameter piping?

well after more driving today I basically ruled out the exhaust theory. I noticed that drops in RPM's for a sec when:

1.press the brakes
2.put on the air
3.put my headlights on/foglights

it's like when I do those things that I'm sucking power from somewhere.

The 02 sensor is before the cat, the catback is after the cat. It wont make a difference

When you use your windows, lights, defrost, etc. (anything taking electrical power from the battery) your rpm's will likely drop. This is most noticible when you are stopped because your alternator is not spinning at the crusing rpm's (like 2000) which would provide more amps to the accessories that you are using, thus the battery is taking the brunt of the electrical output. Using lower resistance wires (ohms) will help brighten your lights and make the rpm's drop less according to the equation RESISTANCE= voltage/amperage. Buying a higher cranking amp will also help.

Most of my experience is with Honda's, so I might not be right.. But this sounds like a faulty ELD (electrical load detector), an ELD adjusts idle/alterantor output to compensate for higher loads i.e., air conditioning, high beams, headlights, etc. Good luck!!

my s13 does the same thing also. It mostly does it when I brake. This week it has got dramaticly worse. Every single time i brake now theres a power cut. Also its gotten so bad where the whole car will shutt off..Pisses me off. I tried cleaning grounds and battery terms and we will see if this works. To early to tell.
